Thursday’s football acca finds us digging deep into the markets to find some value picks in the Premier League where Chelsea entertain Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. We’ll also be looking at defending champions Shamrock Rovers in Ireland’s Premier Division as they travel east across the city to face UCD.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
There’s also two huge playoffs, where we’ve found some value as Swindon take a 2-1 lead into their League Two Playoff semi-final second leg against Port Vale, and Hertha Berlin take on Hamburg in the first leg of their Bundesliga relegation/promotion Playoff. Some monster matches then so let’s get stuck in…

Sky Sports Mix
Were it not for a very, very late Stuttgart goal in their final game against FC Koln, Hertha’s players would already be on the beach sunning themselves. However, Felix Magath must now face off against the team he began his coaching career with in an attempt to keep his Berlin side in the top division.
Since being relegated to the Bundeslia II four seasons ago, Hamburg have been close to promotion on each occasion, finishing fourth in three of those seasons and finally going one better to finish third this season to get a shot at a return to the top tier of German football.
Hertha have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five and at the Olympiastadion they’ve won two and lost three, scoring eight and conceding 10. Hamburg are in the better form of the pair winning four and losing one of their last five in all competitions while their away games have seen them winning three, drawing one and losing one, scoring 12 and conceding six.
It’s tempting to go with the away side here but as the Bundesliga side, Hertha have more experience at a higher level than this squad of Hamburg players and with both in good goal-scoring form we’re getting better value in backing Both Teams to Score.
19:45 – Port Vale vs Swindon: Both Teams to Score, No Draw
Sky Sports Football
Despite losing the first leg 1-2 and being defeated in four of their last five fixtures, Port Vale come into this game as favourites. The Valiants’ home record is a bit better with two wins, one draw and two losses, scoring seven and conceding seven with BTTS landing in three of those five games.
Swindon, on the other hand, have won five in a row. On the road the Robins have won three, drawn one and lost one over their last five, scoring 11 and conceding just four. The home side have to go for it, but the travelling team have been clinical in front of goal of late so we’re expecting BTTS to land. But we can go one further, with Swindon winning so many of their recent games as well as the home side needing to go all out for a chance to meet either Mansfield or Northampton in the final we’re going with BTTS No Draw for this one.

19:45 – UCD vs Shamrock Rovers: Shamrock Rovers to Win & BTTS
Shamrock Rovers hammered UCD 3-0 in the opening fixture of the season back in mid-February and UCD have been pretty awful ever since and only recorded their first win in 15 games this season last weekend in a 0-1 away win over second-from-bottom Finn Harps.
The Students have won one of their last five league games, drawing one and losing three while at the UCD Bowl have drawn two and lost three, scoring four and conceding nine.
Rovers have only lost two league games so far this season and have won eight of their last 10 league fixtures, drawing the other two and on their away league jaunts have won three and drawn two of their last five, scoring 10 and conceding three. The away side have won here in eight of their last nine visits to Dublin 4 and are massively short-odds favourites to take the three points.
One thing we have to point out here in the pursuit of value though is that UCD have scored in four of their last five league games and in three of their last five at home. Rovers have only kept one clean sheet over their last five and in two of their last five on their travels. We’re going against the market here but value is on our side in backing Shamrock Rovers to Win & BTTS.
20:00 – Chelsea vs Leicester: Both Teams to Score
Chelsea are on the beach. They’re qualified for the Champions League already and can take their foot off the gas. Leicester also have nothing to play for – except Jamie Vardy of course, who wants the headlines on the back pages rather than the front because of you-know-what.
And even if he scores four or five we’re still going to be talking about a certain High Court case anyway and how he’s just trying to deflect attention. Unfortunately for Mr Vardy, he’s not got a great record against Chelsea with four goals in 18 appearances against the Blues, winning just four of those games, drawing five and losing nine.
Chelsea’s form isn’t great with just one win over their last five fixtures, drawing three (losing one on penalties) and losing one. Their home league form has seen them winning two, drawing one and losing two. Leicester have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five in the league while away from home have won just one, drawing two and losing two.
BTTS has landed in all five of those away Leicester games and we’ve also seen it land in three of Chelsea’s last five at home and in two of the Foxes last three visits to the Bridge. Both Teams to Score is where the smart money is going here.
