Paddy Power ambassador Phil Thompson is ready for the midweek action in the Premier League, with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa hosting Liverpool in Tuesday’s televised clash.
This fixture produced one of the shocks of last season as the Villans romped to a famous 7-2 victory behind closed doors as Jurgen Klopp’s team suffered a defensive meltdown.
Not only will Liverpool be desperate to avoid a repeat of that result, they need to get back to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday, which saw them slip three points behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race with just three games left to play.
Aston Villa have found their groove of late with two wins on the spin and will climb into the top half of the table if they can make it three. Can the Anfield legend Gerrard deliver a stinging blow to his beloved club’s title hopes on Tuesday? Here’s Thommo’s Aston Villa v Liverpool tips.
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Steven Gerrard up against Liverpool will be very, very interesting. It had a big build up last time when he was back at Anfield in the opposition dugout.
Aston Villa seem to have turned the corner of late as they are three games unbeaten, winning two of them. Interestingly, Philippe Coutinho has been on the bench so it seems as though he may have found a little bit of a formula getting Emiliano Buendia into the game a little bit more. Coutinho will be disappointed if he misses this one against his former club.
Saturday’s draw with Spurs ended Liverpool’s run at Anfield of 12 wins on the trot but they have had eight clean sheets in the last 10. I fancy Liverpool to Win to Nil and in terms of a scoreline, I’m expecting 2-0 Liverpool.
Football Tips: Thommo’s Aston Villa v Liverpool best bets including a 6/1 punt
