Manchester United gave arguably their best performance under Ralf Rangnick in the 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday to keep their wafer-thin top four hopes just about alive.

Realistically they’ve no hope of securing a Champions League spot with Arsenal and Tottenham set to battle it out, but with new manager Erik ten Hag on the way the pressure is on to impress and end the season with a flurry.

For Brighton, a record Premier League points haul has already been secured and a top half finish will be the target for Graham Potter’s side.

They have the fourth-best record on the road this season but have been woeful at the Amex Stadium, where they are yet to win in 2022.

Saturday, May 7: 17.30pm – Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester United
TV: Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League

The Draw

There is nothing to suggest Manchester United are capable of putting back-to-back performances together. They have shown promising signs under Ralf Rangnick in several games under his reign only to humiliate themselves or drop two points in an underwhelming draw in the very next game.

They have not won an away game since victory at Leeds at the end of February and could struggle to do so against a solid Brighton outfit. Graham Potter’s side have taken 10 points from their last five games, recording impressive wins over Arsenal, Tottenham, and Wolves in the process.

They will be confident of taking another scalp against United regardless of United’s good performance on Monday. They may have to settle for a point, however, since United have won the last six meetings between the teams and seem to have Brighton’s number.

Both teams to score

United and Brighton both kept clean sheets in their last game, but there should be goals for both sides on Saturday evening. United’s defensive record this season has been nothing short of appalling, especially away from home.

Rangnick’s side have conceded 30 goals in 17 away league games – the sixth-worst away defensive record in the entire division. They have not kept an away clean sheet in any of their last nine league away games and have conceded 14 in their last five league outings away from Old Trafford.

Brighton, on the other hand, have conceded nine goals in their last five home games and appear to struggle more at home than they do away. It wouldn’t be surprising to both sides fail to keep a clean sheet on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo to score anytime

Cristiano Ronaldo struggled for form over the winter period, but the 37-year-old appears to have fully rediscovered his goalscoring touch over the past six weeks.

Ronaldo has scored nine goals in his last six Premier League appearances, giving him an outside chance of finishing with the Golden Boot. The Portuguese broke his goalscoring duck for 2022 against Saturday’s opponents, cracking in a brilliant finish from outside the box in an eventual 2-0 win in February.

He is good value to score against them again on Saturday.

Brighton to have 6+ shots on target

It is not difficult to see why Manchester United have conceded 52 goals in 36 Premier League games this season. The Red Devils have faced a staggering 174 shots on target in the league this season – the third-worst record in the division – and have faced 26 in their last five games.

They have faced a whopping 31 shots on target in their last five away games, further highlighting their defensive difficulties on the road.

Brighton, meanwhile, have attempted 20 shots on target in their last four games and are likely to ask serious questions of David De Gea in the Manchester United goal.
