Our footie tipster Andrew Cunneen is expecting Man United to struggle.

One of my favourite things to note is the sudden improvement a squad will magically find under the threat of a new manager.

Since Ten Hag was appointed, there’s been somewhat of a reality check in that dressing room no doubt – cosy millionaires potentially realising that their livelihoods aren’t actually guaranteed simply because of their Instagram posts.

The historical pride of Manchester United is no longer being held up by gestures like Ole Gunnar avoiding taking Alex Ferguson’s parking space, or invoking the spirit of Camp Nou in ’99 as if Paul Pogba knows who David May even is.

It’s probably go-time, now. And given the, admittedly fortunate, result against Chelsea, there’s a real sense that this new era won’t be accommodating of such rubbish.

The Dutchman’s antics are supposed to be quite difficult to get used to, and unless he has a Twitch channel, he might struggle to get through to the squad on their current wavelength.

It seems, finally, that the football might have to do the talking – and a wide-open Brentford side is the ideal litmus test for the silent Ten Hag to make his assessments.

Can United make a statement that they’re somewhat functional in their current state? Let’s find out.

Brentford and the Draw

Much like the Chelsea clash, United have been on autopilot for far too long now. It’s actually quite difficult to just turn it on, regardless of the opposition and Brentford are now entering a run of form where they can actively take it to better technical sides.

Taking 10 points from their last 12 including wins over West Ham, Chelsea and a draw against Spurs, they’re now one of the form sides in the league and backing this United team to beat them at the prices is a quick road to being potless.

Over 3.5 Goals

The problem United face is that their squad is so top-heavy, so front-loaded that despite Ten Hag opting for a defence-first, narrow 4-3-3, that display defensive fortitude might well be beyond them given their previous regimes where nobody was held to account.

There’s a part of me that even thinks United might try and force more passes for the sake of it in the middle third and they no longer possess the workrate to move off the ball efficiently enough to beat a high Brentford press.

The game will be played in both 18-yard boxes for the majority and that will cause serious concern somewhere in the Netherlands.

Both Teams to Score

However, the one saving grace for a team like Manchester United is that they still have one of the best players on this planet and even in games where they can’t get anything going like Chelsea, he buries chances he never should.

And on that note…

Ronaldo to Have a Shot on Target in Each Half

The issue with Ronaldo in his old(er) age is that he won’t quite let you write him off. He goes missing for a month and just as people are ready to write his retirement speech, he scores a worldie – almost as if he won’t let you have your moment.

With this renewed speak of him not fitting Ten Hag’s required work ethic, I’d expect him to start shooting from all angles again, especially as half this squad have downed tools.
