There’s something quite nice about Crystal Palace against Leeds.

Maybe it reminds me of the mid-90s, when football was at its absolute peak and we were spared the fans videoing themselves, exaggerating their disgust for the sake of attention. Or maybe it’s the fact that both fanbases don’t really care about the form of the side – that they’ll support it through anything.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Either way, a Monday night clash like this feels like the perfect accompaniment for a cup of tea and a moan about work. These clubs’ direction this year has been a fascinating watch. For all that Marcelo Bielsa was a god-like figure in Leeds, it seems that Jesse Marsch is delivering results in a much more delicate manner. And it does seem somewhat sustainable.

Palace hadn’t quite got the base as high as Leeds did, but Patrick Vieira being the type of player he was, has set about making them difficult to beat. And here’s one for you – no side outside the top six in the Premier League this year have lost fewer games than Crystal Palace.

The Draw

I repeat – only sides in the top six have lost fewer games than Crystal Palace this season. The job Patrick Vieira has done might not jump out at you, but his culture-building is highly impressive and it’s the one place to start when you lack high-end talent.

Palace are no longer whipping boys, and with Leeds really just needing a point here or there to secure safety, they’d be fairly content to let the game play out into a dull draw if there’s little between the sides late in the game.

Under 2.5 Goals

I don’t foresee a situation where these two are going hammer and tongs at it, especially on a Monday night where a point is good enough for both.

Leeds’ recent run of fixtures has included Norwich, Southampton and Watford, so their form boost is a bit of red herring and the bigger scores racked up in those games will confuse a few into thinking they’re wide open. They’re really not.

Raphinha to Have 1+ Shots on Target

I love this boy.

For all that clubs play the game in order to aid their long-term goals – in Leeds’ case here, it’s to avoid the drop – some players don’t sign up for that level of concession.

Raphinha is one of those, and there’s no doubting he’ll be trying to take the game in his own hands, as he tries to manufacture a move away from sunny old Yorkshire in the summer.

Junior Firpo to Be Shown a Card

I mean, he’s just a bit of a lunatic isn’t he?

Only Yves Bissouma has seen more yellow cards than he has this year, and my favourite bit about them is that they’re picked up in such a variety of ways that it really doesn’t matter what way the game is going.

A gift.
