Tuesday night sees the return of a classic Premier League fixture as Manchester United face a tough visit to Anfield to take on Jurgen Klopp’s in-form Liverpool, fresh from their FA Cup Semi-Final victory over Manchester City.

The Reds are still fighting on three fronts, in addition to their Carabao Cup triumph earlier this year, but can scarcely afford to drop any points here. United may be able to do their Manchester rivals a favour, but they’ll be more focussed on trying to gain some momentum in the race for the European places as the teams around them stutter.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

What’s more they’ll want to avoid any repeat of the humilating 5-0 defeat to their bitter rivals on their own turf earlier in the season.

Ahead of what looks set to be a tasty encounter on Tuesday night, Paddy’s tipster Shane O’Brien has been scouring our markets for some value. Lets take a look…

Tuesday 19 April 8pm: Liverpool v Manchester United
TV: Sky Sports Main Event

Handicap Betting: Liverpool (-1)

Both Liverpool and Manchester United enjoyed very different 3-2 wins on Saturday afternoon, with United stumbling to an unconvincing win against basement side Norwich and Jurgen Klopp’s side ousting Manchester City in an enthralling FA Cup semi-final.

Liverpool have recorded a near-perfect 2022, taking 32 points from a possible 36 in the league to keep the pressure on City in addition to winning the League Cup, reaching the FA Cup final, and the last four of the Champions League.

United, on the other hand, have endured an utterly horrendous year so far, taking just 23 points from a possible 42 in the league in addition to exiting both the FA Cup and Champions League following underwhelming home defeats against Middlesbrough and Atletico Madrid.

United will be looking to avenge the humiliating 5-0 reversal they suffered at Old Trafford in October, but there is little prospect of anything other than a Liverpool victory on Tuesday night. The Manchester giants have failed to win any of their last six visits to Anfield in a run stretching back to January 2016 and are unlikely to bring that run to an end on Tuesday.

They may not lose 5-0 again, but it should be another comfortable Liverpool victory.

Both teams to score? No

Not only have United failed to win any of their last games at Anfield, but they have also managed to score just one goal in that six-game spell.

That goal came courtesy of Jesse Lingard in a 3-1 defeat in December 2018 and came after a calamitous Alisson mistake rather than any attacking ingenuity from United.

United hardly ever looked like scoring in the 5-0 rout six months ago and will struggle to break down Liverpool again on Tuesday, even if Jurgen Klopp’s side have conceded seven goals in their last three games.

The fact remains that Liverpool have rediscovered their defensive nous, recording an impressive eight clean sheets in their last 11 league games. United, who failed to really trouble a wretched Everton defence just 10 days ago, could struggle to create chances on Merseyside once again.

Diogo Jota Liverpool

Diogo Jota to score first

Diogo Jota has scored in Liverpool’s last two outings against United, drawing them level in an eventual 4-2 victory last season before putting them 2-0 ahead in the rout this season. Jota has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers during this campaign, scoring 21 goals in all competitions and 15 in the league.

Of those 15 league goals, 10 have come as Liverpool’s first goal, while 14 of his 21 goals in all competitions have gotten the Reds off the mark. He is good value to do so against a United defence that is almost certain to concede a bucketload of chances on Tuesday night.

Trent Alexander-Arnold anytime assist

The four players with the most assists in the Premier League this season are all likely to feature on Tuesday night, but it is Trent Alexander-Arnold who is most likely to add to his tally.

The Liverpool right-back currently leads the way in the Premier League assist chart with 12, ahead of Mohamed Salah (11), Andy Robertson (10), and Paul Pogba (9).

Alexander-Arnold has recorded a hugely impressive 17 assists in all competitions and will cause significant problems for a frail United defence that has conceded twice from crosses since the international break.

Alexander-Arnold has only provided two assists in his last ten Liverpool appearances but is good value to improve that record on Tuesday night.
