It’s international week which can only mean one thing – the only interesting football this Saturday comes from the mighty Football League. Sure, Ireland and England are in action in the evening and there might be a certain pleasure in that, but where’s the jeopardy?

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

We’re fast approaching do-or-die time in the EFL with most teams having just seven games to go come kick off in those fancy international matches at 5pm. We’ll be taking in two big games in League One and two crunch clashes with impact at the top and the bottom of League Two.

It will, hopefully, all add up to a winning four fold with some in-form teams offering us decent value against some of the lesser lights. I’ve got high hopes for Saturday’s EFL effort so let’s get into it.

Doncaster v Charlton – Charlton to Win

Doncaster have shown some improvement of late, only losing two of their last five, drawing two and winning one in a run that’s lifted them to 2nd bottom. However, they face a Charlton side who are doing the same and have now won two on the bounce.

The Addicks had been going through a dreadful run that saw them take one point from seven games but, in their defence, it was a tough set of matches. As mentioned, they’ve won their last two against two of the league’s lesser lights, Burton and Gillingham.

Now they’re back on a steady footing I think they can assert their dominance over a side who have serious relegation worries. Donny’s two recent wins have come against sides in the lower regions of the league so, at the price, it’s worth siding with Charlton to Win and make it three on the trot.

Ipswich v Plymouth – Plymouth to Win

Plymouth’s season looked in danger of going off the rails when Ryan Lowe jumped ship to join Preston but his assistant turned top dog Steven Schumacher has kept the good times rolling and they’re absolutely flying. The Pilgrims have been a bit streaky over the last couple of season but they’re in red-hot form at the moment.

In fact, they’ve won their last six League One games To Nil so backing them to do so again here will give you some stonking value. I’ll keep it safer and side with Plymouth to Win. Argyle are 4th and might be dreaming of automatic promotion.

Ipswich, their hosts on Saturday, are 9th and have playoff aspirations that desperately need a win here. They’ve not lost for 10 games but given how the side from the Westcountry are blowing everyone away we’re getting brilliant value on an away win.

Matt Taylor Exeter

Exeter v Stevenage – Exeter to Win

Exeter City look well placed to end their League Two promotion hoodoo and avoid another playoff heartbreak. They’re 2nd in the 4th tier, two points clear of the playoff spots with a game in hand on pretty much everyone below them in the promotion picture.

They’ll be targeting a home clash with relegation-haunted Stevenage as an absolute must win with Borough 22nd, just three points clear of Oldham in the final relegation spot. Stevenage haven’t won for 10 games while City have lost just one of their last 14.

The Grecians are good at home, they have the 4th-best record in the league in front of their own fans while Stevenage have taken just 10 points from a possible 54 on the road this season. It would be a big surprise if we don’t see an Exeter Win here despite their recent injury problems.

Oldham v Mansfield – Mansfield to Win

Mansfield are in a strange position in League Two. They’re 10th in the league, just two points off the playoffs, but they have three games in hand over the majority of the league.

It’s going to be a frantic end of the season for The Stags, who still have to play league leaders Forest Green home and away, and this is a must win if they’re to potentially launch an automatic-promotion charge. They travel to the hapless Oldham who are 23rd and three points from safety.

The Latics have now lost five on the bounce and last won eight back. Mansfield’s form has seen them lose two of their last five but both were to fellow promotion chasing Port Vale and Tranmere. They should make short work of Oldham, though, with a Mansfield Win.
