Middlesbrough have done fantastically well to make it to the FA Cup quarter finals, dumping out Tottenham and Manchester United on the way to this date with Chelsea. It’s probably their toughest assignment yet, but can they cause another shock?
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS
Paddy Power ambassador, Liverpool legend and FA Cup winner Phil Thompson is here to run the rule over this Championship v Premier League clash on Saturday evening. There’s all kind of issues going behind the scenes at Chelsea, so are they ripe for the taking? Here’s Thommo’s Middlesbrough v Chelsea tips.
Saturday 5.15pm: Middlesbrough v Chelsea
TV: BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Website
THOMMO: It’s been difficult for Chelsea and I just feel for the fans. They’re not allowed in, there’s Champions League games coming up and away fans aren’t allowed to buy tickets.
On the pitch they’re having a bit of a siege mentality where they’re pulling together. They did score a late on against Newcastle and they’ve now won 11 of their last 12 in all competitions, winning the last five.
It’s not damaging them on the football pitch. What do we make of Boro? Chris Wilder’s done an absolutely fantastic job, sitting there in 7th. They’ve got a good chance at the playoffs, you’d have to say. It’s very tight in there.
They beat Spurs on the last round but I can’t see them winning this because of that defence that Chelsea have. I think it will be hard for Boro. I’m going for Chelsea to Win and keep a clean sheet so Chelsea to Win to Nil.
If you want a goal scorer, I’ll go with Kai Havertz to Score Anytime. I think he’s having a great time of it.
