A big clash in the race for European football this Sunday, as West Ham travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The two sides come into the game separated only by goal difference, so it’s a real six-pointer. Here’s Paddy’s Bet Builder for the action.

The Draw

West Ham triumphed on Thursday night where many English clubs have failed by dumping out perennial Europa League winners Sevilla. David Moyes’ side were full value for their 2-1 aggregate win and have a genuine chance of qualifying for the Champions League by winning the second-tier UEFA competition.

They are not completely out of the race for fourth, however, and a win over Tottenham on Sunday would propel them above Manchester United into fifth. They face a Tottenham side that has been hugely inconsistent since the turn of the year.

Tottenham have won six and lost five of their opening 11 league games of 2022 in a run of results that has severely damaged their Champions League aspirations. Having said that, a win on Sunday will likewise send Spurs fifth and allow them to keep pace with North London rivals Arsenal in the race for fourth.

It is difficult to predict which Spurs will turn up on Sunday, but they may be forced to settle for their first draw of the year against a side with plenty of momentum following Thursday night’s heroics.

Both teams to score

Tottenham have kept clean sheets in three of their last four league outings but managed precisely zero in any of their previous five games. They have not kept a clean sheet against a side currently in the top half of the league since a 1-0 win over Wolves in the second game of the season and will struggle to keep one against a West Ham side that has scored the fourth-most goals in the Premier League this season.

West Ham, meanwhile, last kept an away clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Burnley before Christmas, going ten games without an away clean sheet in all competitions. The Hammers edged to a narrow 1-0 win at the London Stadium earlier in the season, but Sunday’s fixture should see more goals.

Over 10.5 corners

West Ham and Tottenham boast remarkably similar corner averages this season, with West Ham winning an average of 5.4 corners per game and Tottenham winning an average of 5.2. West Ham’s six-game average is actually closer to four per game, with Moyes’ side winning 26 corners in their last six league games.

However, they can be expected to better that six-game average against a Tottenham side that has conceded 28 corners in their last six games at a rate of almost five per game. It wouldn’t be surprising to see West Ham match their season average of more than five per corners per game against Tottenham on Sunday.

At the other end, West Ham have conceded 33 corners in their last six outings and are likely to concede five or more on Sunday afternoon.

West Ham under 1.5 cards

West Ham boast the second-best disciplinary record in the league, receiving 34 yellow cards and two red cards (via a second yellow) in 29 games. They average just over one card per game and have received just one booking in each of their last three league outings.

Across their last six league games, the Hammers have received a total of nine yellow cards at an average of 1.5 per game. They have received three yellow cards in two previous games against Tottenham this season, again at an average of exactly 1.5 per game.

However, they are good value to record one card or fewer given their impressive disciplinary record this season.
