For Wednesday night’s Acca we’ve got some big football fixtures lined up from across the UK and Europe, including the Champions League.

In the Premier League, Brighton host Spurs and Liverpool travel to Arsenal, hoping to cut the gap to leaders Man City to one point. Meanwhile, Millwall take on Huddersfield in the Championship. Our Champions League picks are Juventus v Villareal and Lille v Chelsea, with Thomas Tuchel’s team looking to secure qualification for the quarter-finals after a 2-0 win in the first leg.

Let’s get down to business.

Brighton v Tottenham: Tottenham to win

19.30

Brighton’s form has really taken a dive of late. The Seagulls have lost all five of their most recent fixtures and only managed to score a single goal over those five matches – they conceded 11. On home soil their results are only slightly better, with two draws and three losses during which they scored two and conceded nine.

Spurs have won three of their last five Premier League encounters, losing the other two and scoring 14 in the process. Their away form isn’t quite so good, with two wins and three losses, scoring seven and conceding eight. The sides met just over a month ago with Spurs winning 3-1 at home in the FA Cup and with their superior scoring record compared to Brighton, we have to go with the away side here.

Millwall v Huddersfield: Both Teams To Score

TV: Sky Sports Football, 19.45

Huddersfield can overtake Bournemouth in second place in the Championship should they take the three points on offer here. However, it’ll be a stern test against a Millwall side who are in good form of late, having won five and drawn two of their last seven games. The Lions have won three of their last five at the Den, scoring five and conceding just one.

The Terries are in mighty form though – they’re unbeaten over their last 17 Championship games and in their last nine away from home. In their five most recent away games they’ve won three and drawn two. We’d be tempted to go with the away side here, but with the hosts in such good form it’s too risky value-wise. With both teams in robust goal-scoring form, Both Teams to Score has the better value.

Juventus vs Villarreal: Juventus to Win

TV: BT Sport 3, 20.00

After a 1-1 draw in the previous leg this Champions League Last 16 clash looks like it’s going to be a tense affair. Juve are in the better form of the sides – they’re unbeaten over their last 10 in all competitions and have won four of their last five, drawing the other one. At home they’ve won eight of their last 10 in all competitions, drawing the other two.

Villarreal have won three, drawn one and lost one of their most recent fixtures, but their away form won’t be filling their fans with confidence as they’ve lost three of their last five on their travels. It’ll be a tough ask for them to score here too; they’ve failed to find the net in two of their last five away games and the Old Lady have kept six clean sheets over their last 10 at the Juventus Stadium. The romantic in us would like to see Villarreal doing well here but the host’s home record is too strong to argue against. We’re going with a Juventus to Win bet here.

Lille vs Chelsea: Chelsea to Win

TV: BT Sport 2, 20.00

With Chelsea coming into this second leg 0-2 up on aggregate, most Blues fans will be confident that their team are already through. Lille’s form has been steadily improving over recent months, but they’re still not winning enough games. Of their last five they’ve won two, drawn two and lost one, and over their last five at home they have the same record.

Chelsea have won four and drawn one of their last five (losing that draw on penalties). Away from home, they’ve won all five of their most recent fixtures in all competitions, scoring 12 and keeping three clean sheets in the process. With those stats we simply have to go with the away side here as their quality and experience at this level should see them over the line.

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals

TV: Sky Sport Premier League, 20.15

The pressure will be on Liverpool to deliver against the Gunners and close the gap to Manchester City to just one point. However, Arsenal are in strong form of late, having won all five of their recent fixtures. At home in the league they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one. Recent league clashes between the sides at the Emirates are pretty even, with two wins for Liverpool, one for Arsenal and two draws.

The Reds have won three, drawn one, and lost one over their last five, while they’ve won eight in a row in the Premier League. Away from Anfield they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one. Both sides are obviously in great recent form and while Liverpool should do the business over the 90 minutes, Arsenal have been finding the back of the net for fun recently, scoring at least two in four of their last five league fixtures.  We’re all familiar with how lethal Liverpool are in front of goal, too. We’re going with goals here and backing Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals.
