Title-challengers Liverpool travel to the Amex Stadium on Saturday looking to put their midweek defeat to Inter behind them and keep pace with Man City at the top.

With Pep Guardiola’s side not playing until Monday, Liverpool can move back to within three points of the leaders with an eighth successive league win here.

The Seagulls, meanwhile, are desperately seeking an upturn in fortunes after four defeats on the bounce, including a shocking 3-0 defeat at home to relegation-threatened Burnley.

Brighton fully merited their 2-2 draw at Anfield in October at a time when they were the Premier League’s draw specialists, but they now entertain the Reds as one of the most out-of-form sides in the division. Here’s our Bet Builder for the early kick-off.

Brighton v Liverpool, Saturday 12 March (12.30pm)
BT Sport 1

Handicap: Liverpool (-1)

Brighton have won just one of their last eight league games and are without a win at home in their last four league games in a run stretching back to December. They face a Liverpool side that has reignited their title charge, won the League Cup, and reached the last eight of both the FA Cup and the Champions League in recent weeks, even if they did suffer their first defeat in more than two months against Inter Milan on Tuesday night.

Liverpool have won each of their last seven league games, scoring 19 goals in the process. They have failed to score in just one league game all season and are unlikely to come unstuck against Brighton on Saturday.

They should keep up the pressure on Manchester City.

Both teams to score? No

Brighton have failed to score in each of their last two home defeats, losing 3-0 to Burnley and 2-0 to Aston Villa. Graham Potter’s side are one of the worst-performing attacking sides in the league, scoring just 26 goals in 27 top-flight outings. Only Norwich, Burnley, and Wolves boast worse goalscoring records.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have rediscovered their defensive form, keeping six clean sheets in their last nine games in all competitions and five in their last seven league games. They may have conceded in Tuesday’s defeat to Inter, but that was a shot to nothing from Lautaro Martinez, while the last Premier League goal they conceded came via a deflection against Norwich.

They should be able to further improve their recent defensive record against a hapless Brighton on Saturday evening.

    Sadio Mane to score first

Sadio Mane has reached another level since winning the African Cup of Nations with Senegal last month. The Liverpool forward has scored four league goals in four appearances since returning from Cameroon, twice grabbing the opening goal of the game.

In fact, more than half of Mane’s Premier League goals this season have come as the game’s first goal, with seven of his 12 league goals this season opening the scoring. No Liverpool player has opened the scoring more in the league this season than Mane, who also scored in the 2-2 draw with Brighton at Anfield last October.

He is good value to open the scoring against the same opponents on Saturday.

    Diogo Jota to score anytime

Mane’s explosive return from AFCON has coincided with a downturn in goalscoring form for Diogo Jota. The Portuguese took the league by storm in the opening half of the season, scoring ten goals before Christmas. However, he has only scored two since, with both coming against Leicester when neither Mane nor Mohamed Salah featured.

He is without a goal in his last six appearances in all competitions but has undoubtedly been one of the standout performers in the league this season and is bound to rediscover his goalscoring touch eventually. He should get chances against a Brighton outfit that has conceded nine goals in their last four games.
