Now, you could be forgiven for thinking Liverpool are hungover and their desire for cup success is limited after Cork’s own Caoimhin Kelleher single-handedly won them the Carabao Cup this weekend. Often it’s a case of a Championship side catching you on the bounce again (cough, Spurs) or a midtable club with little to play for targeting this specifically, but I’m honestly not even sure it can transpire in this situation.
Let’s just look at the facts – Liverpool were on a nine-game winning run prior to the cup final, they won the cup final and now have to face a side so devoid of confidence because of their Premier League showings, that even this game feels like a burden rather than an opportunity.

If you can find a situation, even against Liverpool’s U19s, that Norwich can stop this juggernaut scoring when they’ve kept just one Premier League clean sheet (against Watford, arguably the only side worse than them in the league) since November, then I applaud you. I applaud you and I’m immediately booking you in for a scan. It won’t happen.
Ultimately the will to win might not be there for Liverpool in their first XI, but I envisage this being a completely different side that lines out and for that reason, I’d back them to eventually get the job done. I say eventually, because..
Half-Time: Draw
The good thing about consistency is that the same XI have a well-drilled, identified passage of play they can go through the motions with and eventually break down weaker sides. That doesn’t quite exist when you make wholesale changes and they’ll struggle to get to grips with the pace of the game early on because of that.
The good thing here is that, regardless of the side, Norwich will sit back and allow them time on the ball to get upto speed – it just might take a little longer than you initially anticipate.
