Manchester City’s rotten FA Cup fixture list continues with a trip to London Road on Tuesday night. City have seen off the might of Fulham and Swindon so far in this year’s edition of the competition and have not faced a Premier League side before the quarter-finals in their last 10 FA Cup games, instead putting their endless riches against the might of the Football League.

They now face the considerable might of a Peterborough side rooted to the foot of the Championship with no wins in their last 11 league games. New manager Grant McCann has a mammoth task on his hands to keep his side in the second tier having just been thrashed 3-0 at home by his former side Hull City at the weekend.

Manchester City -2

Peterborough face an impossible task to oversee one of the great FA Cup shocks against City on Tuesday night and will do well to avoid a hammering.

They may only be separated by one division, but City are leagues above Peterborough and will have no problems making it to their sixth consecutive FA Cup quarter-final under Pep Guardiola.

Both Teams to Score

It may be bordering on the insane to suggest that the team with the worst goalscoring record in the Championship is capable of scoring against the team with the best defensive record in the Premier League, but City have looked vulnerable in their two FA Cup games to date.

They conceded against both Swindon and Fulham despite winning by three goals on both occasions. They also conceded first in their 6-1 win over Wycombe in the League Cup earlier in the season and were ripped apart by Tottenham in their shock defeat two Saturdays ago.

City may have kept a clean sheet against Everton at the weekend, but they were incredibly fortunate not to concede a late penalty after Rodri’s handball. There is a possibility of some degree of complacency creeping into their game when they take on lower-league teams in cup competitions, especially with Guardiola likely to rest several key players ahead of the Manchester Derby at the weekend.

Peterborough might just have a chance of nabbing a consolation.

James McAtee to Score Anytime

With City likely to coast to victory regardless of the team they put out on Sunday, Guardiola is almost certain to give some of his younger players a chance, just as he has done in the previous two rounds of the FA Cup.

James McAtee has come off the bench in each of City’s two cup games so far this season and is likely to see more gametime again on Tuesday given Cole Palmer’s injury woes.

The 19-year-old has yet to score a senior goal for City but boasts a very impressive record at youth level and should flourish in a game where City will almost certainly dominate both possession and territory.

Peterborough boast the second-worst defensive record in the Championship, offering McAtee the perfect opportunity to get off the mark for City.

Joao Cancelo Anytime Assist

Few full backs are having as good a season as Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese full back has been part of the meanest defence in the Premier League, while he also leads the way in assists for City this season with eight in all competitions (alongside Gabriel Jesus). Cancelo has become indispensable for Guardiola’s side and creates just under one chance per game on average.

He also averages more than one key pass per game and is one of the most dangerous attacking full backs in England. City should have no trouble picking apart the Peterborough defence and Cancelo can help pull the strings.
