Football Accumulator Tips: Wednesday’s wily 23/1 wager from the Premier League and EFL

Our tipster Colin Harvey knows it's not quite all about the Champions League.

You may be forgiven for not realising there’s a whole host of football going on this midweek outside of the Champions League. No, I’m not talking about the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Some rearranged Premier League matches have snuck into the schedule as well as a whole round of Championship fixtures and some League One and League Two stuff, too. Here, I’ll be casting my eye over the action slightly off the beaten track on Wednesday.

It’s not often the Premier League is described in this way but, with respect to Watford and Crystal Palace, they’re hardly the main event on Wednesday night. If the inevitable histrionics of Atletico Madrid v Manchester United isn’t for you or, more likely, you don’t have the right TV subscription, why not join me in casting the net a little wider?

I’ve got a best bet from Burnley v Tottenham and Watford v Crystal Palace in the top flight as well as Sheffield United v Blackburn and Stoke v Luton in the Championship. It all adds up to a nice four-fold acca so let’s see what’s about in our non-European Wednesday night games.

7.30pm: Burnley v Tottenham – Both Teams To Score

We’ll start off in the big league where the team keeping the title race alive, Tottenham, head to Turf Moor to tackle Burnley. Knowing Spurs you wouldn’t bet against them losing here and blowing the relegation battle wide open as well.

Spurs are seven points adrift of Manchester United in 4th and they’ll need to make hay of their three games in hand, starting here, if they’re to catch them and steal a Champions League spot. The Clarets are off the bottom in 19th after their impressive 3-0 win over Brighton at the weekend. They’ve got two games in hand over the teams above them but a five-point gap between themselves and safety.

This is a big game, then, and a tricky one to call given Spurs’ infuriating inconsistency and the marked improvement at Burnley following the arrival of Wout Weghorst. Saturday’s 3-0 win was the first time in six Premier League games that Burnley had crossed the Over 2.5 threshold so goals in their games have been at a premium.

They’re flying in all over the shop for Spurs and they’ve seen no fewer than two goals in all six of their most recent matches in all competitions. I think Both Teams to Score has the best chance of coming off here. Lads, it’s Spurs.

7.45pm: Sheffield United v Blackburn – Sheff Utd to Win to Nil

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football

To our first Championship game now where Blackburn travel to Sheffield United. The Blades are the league’s in-form team and their last loss came nine games back. Since then they’ve won five and drawn three.

Blackburn have fallen off a cliff at the wrong time as it was starting to look like they were going to be nailed on for an automatic promotion place. However, they’ve won just one of their last six, losing three, but are somehow still 3rd in the league, four points behind Bournemouth who have two games in hand over them.

United are up to 6th and are doing a great job of making up for their slow start. It’s hard to see them not winning here but, at the time of writing they’re odds on to do so. Instead I’ll take United to Win to Nil.

Blackburn have now not scored in four games and they’ve netted just once in the last six. The Blades have kept four clean sheets on the bounce and in six of their last seven, conceding just once, so this bet is well worth a go.

7.45pm: Stoke v Luton – Over 2.5 Goals

Stoke in 13th host the red-hot Luton this midweek with The Hatters holding increasingly strong Championship playoff hopes. Stoke have fallen away after a decent start while Luton are looking to finish in flying form. Luton have won seven of their last 11 league games, losing two and drawing two.

The Potters have won just two of their last 10 in the second tier, drawing four and losing four. There’s a really handsome price on Luton to Win here, which I think is a great bet, but their 3-0 loss away at 18th placed Birmingham has put the willies up me so I’ll play it safer for your acca.

The numbers are guiding me towards Over 2.5 Goals. Overs has clicked in two of Luton’s last three but it’s Stoke’s numbers that are standing out.

Overs has clicked in all three of their most recent matches and four of their last six going further back. They’ve seen 11 goals in their last three, an average of 3.7 per match. More of the same here please, Potters.

7.30pm: Watford v Crystal Palace- BTTS? No and Under 2.5 goals

We finish with surely one of the most uninspiring Premier League fixtures of the season and Watford v Crystal Palace. It’s 18th hosting 13th and a team with the worst home record in the league against the side with the 5th worst away points haul.

These two are in absolutely rank form in the Premier League with The Hornets’ 1-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend their first in a whopping 13 games since they put the final nail in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coffin at Manchester United. Before Saturday they had only claimed two points since the 20th November.

Palace aren’t much better and they’ve had two wins in their last 14, both coming against struggling sides in the shape of Norwich and Everton. The best bet for this one looks to be Both Teams To Score? No and Under 2.5 Goals.

This is a bet that would have come off in all four of Watford’s most recent games, a run that’s seen them score one goal and concede three. They’re, predictably, shutting up shop under Roy Hodgson. This would have clicked in Palace’s last two and they’ve scored one goal in their last three, conceding just two. One for the purists.
