Manchester United to win
The two sides played out a drab 0-0 draw in this fixture last season, with United electing for the pace of Dan James up top to worry the Leeds defence. In fact, United have used James in all three of their Premier League games against Leeds since their promotion in 2020, so it will be interesting to see how United adapt now that he plays for the other team.
United romped to a 5-1 win at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season and should be confident of doing a first league double over Leeds in 22 years. Leeds boast an absolutely wretched record against the big six this season, playing six, losing six, and conceding 24 goals in the process.
They have taken just one point from their last three games and have won just three of their 11 league games at Elland Road this season, losing four.
With a midweek win over Brighton helping to restore their shot confidence, United can strengthen their hold on fourth place with a win over Leeds at their own patch on Sunday.
Both teams to score
United may have kept a clean sheet in their 2-0 win over Brighton midweek, but they were far from convincing defensively and relied on the heroics of David De Gea once again. United had failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their three games prior to that Brighton outing and have failed to keep an away clean sheet in each of their last four away league games in a run stretching over two months.
They have been more defensively solid since Ralf Rangnick took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but still bleed gilt-edged chances in virtually every game they play under the German. Rangnick has overseen just five clean sheets in 14 games in all competitions since his appointment, underlining United’s struggles since he took the job.
Leeds, on the other hand, are almost guaranteed to concede goals in every game they play. They have conceded 46 goals in 23 league games this season at a rate of exactly two goals per game.
Only Norwich boast a worse defensive record than Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with Leeds managing just three clean sheets all season and none in their last nine games. Both sides should fancy their chances of breaching their opponent’s defence on Sunday.

Leeds to have 6+ Shots on Target
It is little wonder why United have had so much difficulty keeping clean sheets under Rangnick. They have faced a staggering 53 shots on target in their 11 league games under the German at a rate of just under five per game.
In their five away league games under Rangnick, United have faced 34 shots on target at a rate of almost seven per game. It is a testament to David De Gea’s rediscovered form that United have only conceded five goals in those away games.
Leeds, meanwhile, are renowned for their cavalier football under Bielsa and will always create chances.
They have managed 26 shots on goal in their last six games at a rate of over four per game, but they can be expected to comfortably beat that average against a side that actively helps its opponents land shots on goal.
Over 4.5 cards
Sunday sees a clash between the worst and third-worst disciplined sides in the Premier League. Leeds boast the worst disciplinary record in the division, receiving 61 yellow cards and one red card in 23 games.
Bielsa’s side average almost three cards per game and it would not be surprising if they matched that average on Sunday in what will be a fiery atmosphere against their old rivals.
United, meanwhile, have received 51 yellow cards and two red cards in 25 league games this season – a little bit more respectable than Leeds’s record, but not great by any means. The likes of Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire can always be relied upon to make a clumsy foul worthy of a booking, while Bruno Fernandes can almost be expected to talk his way into a booking.
It would be surprising if United left Elland Road with a perfect disciplinary record.
