We’ve a mouth-watering Champions League Last 16 encounter to get stuck into here between two heavyweights with nine European cups between them. Liverpool have peaked at just the right time for the knockout stages, winning each of their last six games in all competitions.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, have lost form at just the wrong time, dropping seven points in their last four league games to surrender the lead in the Serie A title race, albeit with a game-in-hand on league leaders AC Milan.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS

With the Premier League title seemingly out-of-reach, Jurgen Klopp will be putting all his energy into winning this competition. After sweeping aside the so-called ‘Group of Death’ featuring Atletico Madrid, Porto and AC Milan with ease, Liverpool are undoubtedly one of the favourites to reach the final in St Petersburg but the reigning Italian champions should offer a stern test of their credentials.

Here’s our four value picks for a blockbuster Champions League Bet Builder.

Liverpool to win

The sides’ opposing form makes for a convincing case for Liverpool to continue their perfect record in the Champions League this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side became the first English side in history to win all six Champions League group games when they defeated Inter’s city rivals at the San Siro in their final group game in December while playing a second-string starting XI.

They should extend their current winning run and their Champions League winning run to seven games.

Both teams to score

Liverpool may have kept five clean sheets in their last seven games, but they have been far from convincing at the back, especially away from home.  Burnley could have scored a hatful against them on Sunday, while Crystal Palace could have scored half a dozen when they travelled to Selhurst Park before the winter break.

For all their dominance in their Champions League group, Liverpool still failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their three away games and were sliced apart by AC Milan in a 3-2 win on the opening night of the competition. Inter, on the other hand, are the most prolific team in Italy having scored an impressive 55 goals in 24 games in Serie A.

Liverpool have scored the joint-most goals in the Premier League so far this season and should cause damage against an Inter defence that managed just two clean sheets during the group stages.

Diogo Jota to score first

Diogo Jota has emerged as one of the most dangerous forwards in England in recent months, scoring five goals in his last five games to help Liverpool make up for the loss of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane during the African Cup of Nations.

Jota is Liverpool’s second highest goalscorer this season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions. The Portuguese forward has developed a knack for scoring first, with seven of his goals coming as the first in the game and 10 coming as Liverpool’s first.

He can continue his excellent goalscoring form on Wednesday by setting Liverpool on their way in Milan.

Mohamed Salah to have two or more shots on target

Mohamed Salah has now failed to score in his last five appearances for Liverpool after starting the season at breakneck speed and scoring 23 goals in his first 23 appearances. With that goal drought in mind, Salah is likely to pepper the Inter Milan goal with shots on Wednesday night.

Salah is always likely to land a few shots on target in any circumstances. The Egyptian forward has registered 41 shots on target in 22 league appearances – the most in the Premier League by a considerable distance.

He has attempted an average of roughly four shots per game in the league season, while he averages more than three shots per game in Europe. He has found the target on 13 occasions in his six European appearances so far this season at a rate of more than two per game and is likely to do so again on Wednesday.
