Paddy Power ambassador and Reds hero Phil Thompson is back again to preview a busy midweek of Premier League action. Here Thommo’s taking a look at his beloved Liverpool as they host Leicester at Anfield on Thursday night.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
The two sides come into this clash in very different form after the weekend’s FA Cup fixtures. Liverpool made relatively easy work of Cardiff at Anfield, while Leicester’s reign as FA Cup holders was brought to a resounding end as they were dumped out with a 4-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest. The Foxes will be looking to regain some stability after that humiliation while Klopp’s men are aiming to keep the pressure on Man City at the top of the table.

THOMMO: It is a big game. Obviously with Brendan Rodgers coming back to Anfield it’s got a little bit of a juice about it there.
But I did watch that game against Forest and my goodness they were unrecognisable, Leicester. On that performance you would think ‘my goodness this is going to be one-way traffic’.
Yes, obviously I’m going to go for Liverpool. They’ve won only three of the last 11 Premier League games, Leicester, so their form is not great. Defensively, they’ve been shocking, conceding goals from set pieces galore so it has really not been a good time for them.
Brendan is never normally like that, coming out and criticising his players and he seemed as though he was really really angry.

I’m looking at it and they had 22 days off before they played Spurs on 19th January, now we’ve had a two-week break I’m thinking ‘has all this rest unhinged them a little bit?’ There’s no continuity.
I do think they’ll show up, though. Having those words rammed down their throats from Brendan and it being a Premier League game I do think they’ll give a better showing but I’m still going for Liverpool.
They’ve lost just two in 43 games in all competitions and that game against Leicester on the 28th December was only their second defeat of the season. I think we’ll still be smarting from that.
What we just had at the weekend in the FA Cup, I’m going for the same scoreline. I’m going for 3-1 and I’m going for Jota to be on the scoresheet.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Luis Diaz starts as well but I’m going to go for Diogo ‘Toshack’, he scores more headers than John Toshack and he’s in fantastic form.
