The Premier League’s best attack takes on its worst defence at Anfield on Thursday, leaving Newcastle with little hope of recording their second league victory of the season. Liverpool have been all-conquering in recent weeks, winning seven games on the bounce in all competition and five games in-a-row in the league.

Thursday 8pm: Liverpool v Newcastle
BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate

Booking Odds: Over 30 Points

They boast the Premier League’s best attack by a considerable distance, scoring a staggering 45 goals in 16 league games to date. They have scored in every game they have played in all competitions this season and it appears incredibly unlikely that a Newcastle side that has conceded 34 goals in the league to date will be able to live with them.

Newcastle were trounced 4-0 at Leicester on Sunday and have picked up just three points on the road all season. They’re going to be chasing shadows again as they struggle to hold back the red tide. This all adds up to plenty of cards making Booking Odds: Over 30 Points a very appealing bet.

Over 3.5 goals

Liverpool are good money to score at least four goals against a wretched Newcastle defence on Thursday. Jurgen Klopp’s side have broken the four-goal barrier on five occasions already this season and average almost three goals per game.

They have scored three goals or more on nine occasions in the league to date – more than half of the league games they have played this season. Newcastle, meanwhile, have conceded at least three goals six times already and are in danger of being hit for at least four goals for the fourth time this season.

At the other end, Newcastle do boast some attacking talent in the form of Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson and are capable of causing some damage to a Liverpool defence that has looked uncharacteristically vulnerable at stages throughout the season.

The Reds have conceded more goals than either Chelsea or Manchester City and have conceded three goals in two separate league games. Liverpool have struggled for goals in their last two league outings, but Newcastle do not have the defensive capabilities of Aston Villa or Wolves, so expect a return to normality on Thursday and Over 3.5 Goals.

Mohamed Salah to score two or more goals

Mo Salah’s ridiculous start to the season shows no signs of slowing down. The Egyptian forward has scored or assisted in all but one of Liverpool’s league games this season and already holds a five-goal lead in the Premier League goal scoring charts.

Salah has done most of his damage away from home this season, scoring nine of his 14 league goals on the road, but he has an excellent chance to rectify that on Thursday night.

Salah has scored against Newcastle at Anfield in each of his four full seasons since joining Liverpool and is almost unbackable to continue that record for a fifth season. Salah is good value to bag at least a brace against a hapless Newcastle defence on Thursday.

Allan Saint-Maximin to have one or more shots on target

Newcastle would find themselves in a much bleaker situation if it were not for Allan Saint-Maximin. The French winger has directly contributed to four of Newcastle’s ten points this season and has registered three goals and three assists so far in the league this season, contributing to more than one-third of Newcastle’s goals.

He has attempted 33 shots for the Magpies in the league this year at a rate of more than two a game, while he finds the target with roughly one out of every three shots.

Liverpool do not face many shots on target, facing an average of just under three shots on target per game. However, if Newcastle can match that tally, there is every chance that Saint-Maximin will be responsible for the lion’s share of them.

The Frenchman is a maverick for whatever defence he comes up against and can even trouble the ultra-composed Virgil Van Dijk. At a very healthy price Allan Saint-Maximin to have one or more shots on target rounds us off.
