2pm: Burnley v West Ham – West Ham to Win

We should make them both play in their home kits and confuse the life and eyes out of the public. That’s the one thought that always enters my head. The other is that Burnley, at home, aren’t great shakes whatsoever.

Before, there was a built-in fear of going to Turf Moor. I don’t mean as a team, I mean in general. But that applied to footballers as well. Whereas, somewhere down the line, Burnley reverted to type and just became a relatively soft, pseudo-counter-attacking team that were nowhere near good enough to avoid relegation scraps every year.

Their draws against Chelsea and Leicester – which are their most credible results of the season – both came away from home, too. While only Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City have more points on the road this year than the Hammers. Expect West Ham to Win.

2pm: Leicester v Newcastle – Leicester to Win

Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Not to make selections boring, but this one is perfect. There was a part of me that fancied Newcastle last week simply because they were due some form of positive result (they’ve too many semi-decent players not to occasionally land a blow) and it was a comfy game at home.

I now genuinely believe, like all Eddie Howe’s big results, it’ll come crashing down immediately after. Sometimes you can be too positive post-win and forget to self-reflect. They could have easily thrown that result away and they’ll have forgotten that.

Leicester, on the other hand, are going through a bit of a change. No longer are they knocking off the big sides and staking a claim at the top table only to be undone by some poor results against weaker sides – it’s the exact inverse. The only result they managed this year that you maybe wouldn’t have immediately expected was their 4-2 win over Manchester United. And even then, we add the asterisk next to United because Ole’s time was clearly up.

Their wins outside that have come against Watford, Brentford, Wolves and Norwich. This is more cannon fodder for them. Leicester to Win feels a good pick.

4.30pm: Crystal Palace v Everton – Over 2.5 Goals

Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

I am a tad surprised that the overs is the odds-against shot here. Given Everton’s recent results where they’ve given up on the traditional Benitez defensive focus and opted instead for end-to-end combat, you’d think playing away to Palace affords the prime opportunity for the same.

Palace, for want of a better term, are identity-less and can get caught up in games without having a major blueprint to fall back on. As Everton are in desperation mode in the dressing room, expect a helter-skelter encounter in Selhurst Park with Over 2.5 Goals.
