Another weekend of football is upon us and even the Premier League is joining in with the Friday night fun this week. The self-styled greatest league in the world is joined by its counterparts from France, Spain and Germany among others in helping us blow away the work-week blues.

COME HERE OFTEN?

It’s not the cream of the crop – they all played in the midweek Continental competitions – but there’s plenty of decent games on and some that are genuinely too close to call.

I’m anticipating goals in England and Germany and some proper 50/50 action from France and Spain. So, with the weekend calling, here’s a Friday flutter for your consideration.

7.30pm: FC Koln v Augsburg – BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals

Sky Sports Football

Koln are pottering along quite nicely in the Bundesliga and sit 9th after 14 games. They’ll fancy their chances against Augsburg on Friday night with the Bavarians down in 16th as the winter break looms into view.

For a side in their lowly position Augsburg have been doing well of late with two wins, a draw and two losses in their last five. Koln have drawn three, won one and lost one over the same timeframe.

Despite the disparity in league position I can’t back either to win with confidence and instead will go for Both Teams To Score and Over 2.5 Goals. BTTS has landed in all four of Koln’s most recent matches while overs has landed in two of them.

Both teams have scored in eight of Augsburg’s last nine with overs landing in six of those games. With the result hard to call, given Augsburg’s improved fortunes recently, I’ll side with the stats and Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals.

8pm: Brentford v Watford – BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals

Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

To the Premier League where I think we’ll see a decent game. On paper this might not be the most appetising match of the season for neutrals but I think Brentford and Watford could serve up something a bit special.

Both The Bees and The Hornets have been seen plenty of goals in their last few games and there’s nothing to suggest that won’t continue here. Brentford have had Over 2.5 Goals in six of their last eight with both teams scoring in the same number.

Watford have had Overs in their last four with both teams scoring in each of those. There have been 16 goals in The Bees’ last five, an average of 3.2 per match.

Claudio Ranieri’s side have witnessed 19 at an average of 3.8 in their last five with some eye-watering fixtures in there – both teams have scored in four of them as well. Whatever way you look at it that’s a hell of a lot of goals. Here’s hoping the trend continues and I’m on Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals again.

8pm: Mallorca v Celta Vigo – The Draw

LaLigaTV and FreeSports

Off to La Liga and the absolute epitome of a mid-table battle. Mallorca in 12th take on 14th placed Celta Vigo as the eternal struggle for a top-half finish really starts to heat up. Sorry, that’s the best I can do in terms of hype here.

Anyway, Celta can leapfrog Mallorca with a win as they have 16 points from their 16 games. The side from the Balearic Islands have 19 points but an inferior goal difference to their mainland opponents.

The key here could be Mallorca’s love of a stalemate. They’ve drawn six of their last eight matches including one against Gimnastica Segoviana from the 4th tier in the Copa Del Rey.

Celta have drawn three of their last six, though none of their last three. A hard one to call either way and, looking at the form lines, I think The Draw is the most likely outcome.

8pm: Nantes v Lens – The Draw

BT Sport ESPN

I can see a similar outcome in our final match from France. Lens, who have been going well but have stalled of late, head to Nantes on Friday evening looking to get themselves going again.

Nantes are 13th, just four points behind Lens in 5th so it’s pretty tight in the French top flight. Lens had been employing a boom and bust policy until recently with four wins and four defeats in the eight games proceeding three draws in their last three.

Nantes have two draws, two losses and a win in their last five and they’re seriously struggling for some consistency. I think in this game it might pay to side with The Draw again as two sides looking to find their stride try to steady the ship.
