AC Milan to Win

AC Milan can count themselves incredibly fortunate to be in with a fighting chance of qualifying for the round-of-16 considering they had picked up just one point from their opening four group games.

The Rossoneri’s knockout hopes were hanging by a thread at the halfway point in Group B after losing three successive games by a one-goal margin against Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Porto. They would already be out of the Champions League were it not for the sheer dominance of Liverpool in the group and the inability of Porto and Atletico to secure second-place.

BT Sport 2

A late equaliser against Porto on matchday four followed by a late winner at Atletico last time out has now propelled Milan to within touching distance of the knockout stages so long as they beat Liverpool and Porto fail to beat Atletico.

They have a good chance of keeping their side of the bargain; Liverpool, although all-conquering in Group B, have literally nothing to play for ahead of a busy Christmas period that will see them play eight times in 25 days.

It would be sheer lunacy or egotism for them to go all guns blazing in Milan on Tuesday when they have already secured top spot at a canter.

Milan, meanwhile, are no mugs and find themselves top of the Serie A table at the 16-game mark. They should be more than capable of beating a Liverpool outfit with bigger fish to fry.

Both Teams to Score

Milan may find themselves top of the Serie A tree, but it is not because of their defensive competence.

The Italians have conceded 18 goals in the league so far at a rate of more than one a game, while they conceded seven in a recent two-game league spell against Fiorentina and Sassuolo.

They face a rampant Liverpool attack that has scored 44 times in 15 league games and 64 times in all competitions, with 39 of those goals coming away from home.

However, Liverpool’s attack is likely to be blunted by rotation and is unlikely to inflict the kind of damage it did at Goodison Park last week.

At the other hand, the Reds have hardly been convincing, conceding three goals against both Brentford and West Ham in the league, whilst being ripped apart at stages during 3-2 victories against Atletico Madrid and AC Milan in the Champions League.

Milan have scored 35 times in 16 league games and are capable of exploiting a somewhat vulnerable Liverpool defence.

Junior Messias to Score Anytime

Junior Messias is the reason AC Milan have any chance at all of making the knockout stages on Tuesday night.

The Brazilian’s late winner in Madrid last time out was the difference between Milan exiting the competition and having a fighting chance in the final round of fixtures.

Messias has made just one start since signing on loan from Crotone in the summer, but he has undeniably made an impact in recent weeks, following up his Champions League heroics with a brace against Genoa in his first start for the club.

He has proved an important acquisition due to Ante Rebic’s injury and Rafael Leao’s loss of form and he can play a big part against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Konstantinos Tsimikas Anytime Assist

Tsimikas is likely to deputise for Andy Robertson in Milan on Tuesday night and the Greek full-back can stake a further claim for the starting left-back berth with another impressive performance.

The 25-year-old has impressed whenever called upon by Jurgen Klopp this season and has registered two assists in his 10 appearances to date this season.

He has also averaged two key passes per game during this campaign in addition to almost three crosses per game. He can cause damage against a porous AC Milan rear guard.
