The Draw

If Newcastle are to ever to end this winless start to the Premier League season, it is surely against fellow strugglers Norwich at home. The Toon have picked up just six points from their opening 13 league games and already find themselves six points adrift of safety.

They have an opportunity here to lift themselves off the bottom of the table and overtake the 19th-placed Canaries. Unfortunately for Newcastle, however, they come up against an in-form opponent that has taken seven points from their last three games.

Norwich secured their first win of the season in Daniel Farke’s final game in charge before the international break and have shown encouraging signs under Dean Smith. They were unlucky not to claim all three points against Wolves on Saturday and, amazingly, will have collected more points than any other Premier League club in the month of November if they beat Newcastle on Tuesday.

However, they may have to settle for a point against a Newcastle side that has drawn three of their last five games and drawn six out of seven games against bottom-half clubs this season.

Both Teams to Score

Newcastle and Norwich unsurprisingly boast the worst defensive records in the league, conceding a combined 56 goals so far.

Tuesday’s hosts have conceded 29 goals this season, more than any other club in the top-flight. They are also yet to keep a clean sheet and have conceded 16 goals in six outings at St. James’ Park.

Their fortunes are unlikely to improve before the January transfer window, even with Eddie Howe in the dugout, and Norwich can capitalise.

They’ve conceded 27 goals in 13 games and have shipped two goals or more on seven separate occasions, although they have managed to keep three clean sheets. It remains highly unlikely that either club records a shutout in this six-pointer, though.

Teemu Pukki to Score Anytime

Norwich’s upturn in form has coincided with captain Teemu Pukki rediscovering his goalscoring touch. The Finnish striker scored in both victories against Brentford and Southampton and attempted five shots in the 0-0 draw with Wolves at the weekend.

He is the only Norwich player to score more than once in the league this season and can thrive against a Newcastle defence that has conceded more goals than any other team in the Premier League. Pukki is also Norwich’s penalty taker and faces a Newcastle side that has conceded five spot-kicks in 13 league games this season, which is at least two more than any other club.

Allan Saint-Maximin to Score Anytime

Newcastle’s situation would be a lot starker without Allan Saint-Maximin. The French forward’s three league goals have earned three points for Newcastle – half of their Premier League total to date.

All of the Frenchman’s goals have come in home draws against sides in the bottom half, with his most recent strike rescuing a point in Newcastle’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Brentford.

He also rescued a point in the September draw against Leeds, while his 90th-minute goal looked to have won it against Southampton in August, only for James Ward Prowse to convert a 96th-minute penalty.

Saint-Maximin has also provided three assists this season and set up Sean Longstaff in the 1-1 draw at Watford in October. He is by far Newcastle’s best player and can flourish against a porous Norwich defence.
