West Ham’s fantastic season rolls on and they could put another glistening cherry on the top of their increasingly delicious cake on Thursday night. David Moyes’ boys are through to the knockout stages of the Europa League and a win against Rapid Vienna will cement their place as Group H winners.

The benefits of this are two fold. Firstly it means they avoid playing one of the 3rd placed Champions League teams. The even better news is that it means two fewer games as those clubs dropping down from the UCL will play the eight teams who finish as runner up in their Europa League groups in a two-legged last 32 round of games. The winners of those matches will progress to the last 16 and a potential date with the Hammers. It’s well worth putting the effort in to top the group, then. Because of this, I think Moyes will again go strong and look to maintain their good record in this competition.

They have a four-point cushion to Dinamo Zagreb in 2nd so three points are very much on the agenda and if they achieve that target here it means a dead rubber on the final matchday and no two-legged tussle in February. With all the big boys likely to be in attendance, let’s see where the value lies with a Thursday evening Bet Builder.

David Moyes West Ham Doncaster FA Cup January 23, 2021

Thursday 5.45pm: Rapid Vienna v West Ham
BT Sport 1

West Ham (-1)

West Ham had been flawless until their surprising 2-2 draw with Genk last time out. It was only surprising because it was the first time they had failed to Win to Nil in the competition. I suspect a bit of complacency might have set in with the group all-but won after three games.

I don’t expect Moyes to let that slide and I fully anticipate they’ll be fired up and ready to make amends against their Austrian opponents, especially after losing against Wolves in the Premier League at the weekend.

A West Ham win here means they effectively have no competitive Europa League action to worry about until March 2022 so it’s worth putting the effort in to get the job done. If the Hammers are back to their best they should pass the West Ham (-1) handicap.

Over 3.5 Goals

It’s worth noting that this is effectively the last-chance saloon for Rapid. The Austrians can still make it through but they’ll realistically have to win here to do so. I don’t think that’s going to happen but they will have to try and attack at some point. Given their plight we could see plenty of action and Over 3.5 Goals.

Michail Antonio Anytime Assist

I can see Rapid paying very close attention to West Ham’s top scorer, Michail Antonio. Perhaps a little too much attention, in fact. They might get close enough to him to stop him from scoring but that will open up another key asset of his game – his link up play.

Antonio will occupy at least two centre backs at any time and that will leave space for his team mates. He has set up four goals already this season and, if he plays, I can see Antonio getting an Anytime Assist in this one.

Said Benrahma to Score Anytime

An assist, perhaps, for Said Benrahma. The Algerian follows Antonio in the Hammers’ scoring charts by just one goal and he bagged both of his side’s goals in the aforementioned 2-2 draw with Genk.

That space Antonio should create will be perfect for Benrahma to float into. He’s so good at arriving in those dangerous areas to slot home after smart layoff. At a really nice price, I’ll side with Said Benrahma to Score Anytime.
