We have some massive matches lined up for Tuesday night’s Champions League Acca. In Group F Villarreal can heap more pain on managerless Manchester United in the early kick-off, later on Barcelona and Benfica are in a battle to secure second place in Group E.
Group H sees already-qualified Juventus travelling to Stamford Bridge to take on a Chelsea side who have just gone nine games unbeaten in all competitions. Finally, we return to Group F where Young Boys host Atalanta where goals should be on the menu.

17:45 Villarreal v Man United: Double Chance – Villarreal Or Draw
Villarreal will be licking their lips at the prospect of taking on Michael Carrick’s Manchester United on Wednesday evening. United have been an absolute mess at the back for the last, well, few months and whoever takes charge will have a job on their hands. The Spaniards aren’t in terrific form, they’ve won two of their last five, while at the Estadio de la Cerámica they’re faring better with three wins, one draw and one loss.
United. Oh United, where to start with this car crash. Well, first off, conceding four to Watford is pretty shambolic, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should’ve been given his P45 at least a month ago. Over his last 10 games they’ve only won three, and over their last five it’s just one, drawing one and losing three.
United’s away form in Europe has been rough for two seasons now, losing to Roma in the Europa League last season and Young Boys, RB Leipzig and Basaksehir in the Champions League. The market has United as favourites, but that’s probably due to hopeful United fans hoping for a bounce. The value is certainly in opposing them.
20:00 Barcelona v Benfica: Both Teams To Score In The Second Half
Just two points separate Barcelona and Benfica in Group E, but a win for the home side here would see them qualify. A loss for the Catalans would be a disaster for them as they’ll be facing Bayern Munich in the final Group Stage match in December. The visitors will have to be on the front foot here though as a draw and a win against Dynamo Kiev in December would see them through should Barca lose in Munich.
With so much on the line it might well be a cagey start, and the league form of both sides suggests we will see most of the action in the second period of play. Both the hosts and the underdogs are averaging a goal per game in the second half of games when playing at home/away in the league this season. Armed with that stat, you can see why we’ve made this selection.
20:00 Chelsea v Juventus: Both Teams To Score
As mentioned in our intro Chelsea come into this match on the back of a run of nine games without defeat. Indeed, the last team to beat the Blues was Juventus in a masterclass of Massimo Allegri football in Turin in late September. During that run Thomas Tuchel’s side won eight, drawing two (winning one on penalties). The Old Lady have also played nine games since that victory, winning six of them.
The hosts’ home form is particularly strong, but the steely defence they’re so well-known for has been tarnished of late – conceding at home to average sides like Aston Villa, Southampton and Burnley. Chelsea have netted at least one goal though in nine of their last 10 at home. Juve have scored at least one in all 15 of their most previous away games. Both Teams To Score should be the name of the game here.
20:00 Young Boys v Atalanta: Both Teams To Score No Draw
Atalanta can overtake Villarreal in Group F if things go well for them and Villarreal make a dog’s dinner of it at home to Man United. A victory for both teams sets us up very nicely for the final group match between the pair in December. Young Boys could still qualify, but they’d need to win both their matches with other results swinging their way too.
The Swiss side are strong at home, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last 10 at the Wankdof Stadium, while Atalanta share the same record over their last 10 away games. There’s plenty to play for here and both sides are full of goals. Both Teams to Score looks the play, but we should see a winner here with so much on the line.
