Friday night football. It’s a bit like finding a fiver in the arse pocket of your jeans that you haven’t worn in months. It’s a gorgeous bonus for all involved.

You probably don’t consider these two as viable relegation candidates given the quality of player they have, the runs of form they’ve flashed over the last 12 months – and the fact Norwich exist. But, they’re both just a bad result away from a severe dogfight.

This might not be a must-win, but given the importance of early-season form to both of these sides last year, it won’t be going unnoticed on the south coast or in Birmingham just how quickly results become trends.

I don’t see why we shouldn’t dabble in a Bet Builder though. Follow me, folks!

Southampton To Win

We all joke about Southampton being the xG kings and how Hassenthutl is an analytical headache because all his indicators point up without much to show for it. But, the reason for those perceptions is largely because they do phenomenal work in the build-up; they just need to find a constant flow of finishers.

Villa are coughing up easier chances than most this year. Their 19 goals shipped is the third-worst mark in the league and the solidarity they were based on last year appears to have been abandoned. Not the absolute best combination, all-told.

Che Adams To Score Anytime

Ah yes, we do love a former Birmingham City legend scoring against the Villa under the lights don’t we folks? Have I over-exposed my own allegiances here? Possibly. However, Adams is the kind of dynamic striker that does create issues for them. At the moment, their biggest issue is how slowly they move the ball out from the back.

Some strikers might side on and force distribution down a channel to try win possession further downfield, but Southampton press high. Adams always benefits from these situations and I expect him to do the same here.

Over 2.5 Goals

Villa have shipped 11 times away from home. Eleven! They’re not a side set up to combat games that get away from them because they lack energy in midfield to cover spaces left in behind when they’re chasing.

At least at home they’re respected a touch more and given more time to switch play. Southampton are a defensive team first and foremost, and scoring the first goal allows them to do that when they’re at home. This is the perfect setup.

John McGinn To Have Two Or More Shots

Ollie Watkins leads Villa with 20 shots in the league this year. Normal enough for a central striker. But after him? Danny Ings, maybe? Konsa?

No, it’s John McGinn – three clear of the rest because all he does is shoot on sight. There are very few things left unfound in betting markets in the Premier League, but McGinn’s boots are the anomaly.
