Saturday night is the focus of our Saturday football acca. There are four big games being played where we’ve turned up some value after a deep dive into the stats and form. We’ll be looking at Reading taking on Championship leaders Bournemouth and Lyon hosting Lens in Ligue 1.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Barcelona’s first game following the disastrous Ronald Koeman-era sees them taking on Alaves at home with former midfield maestro Xavi the favourite to take the managerial role. Surely he’ll be in the stands for this one. Finally then to Portugal where Sporting take on Vitoria Guimaraes.

20.00: Reading v Bournemouth – Under 2.5 Goals

Reading aren’t in great shape of late, winning two of their last five in the league, losing the other three, scoring just four goals. At home things are a bit better though, they’ve won three of their last five, drawing one and losing one. Bournemouth are still unbeaten over their 14 Championship games this season, winning 10 and drawing four. Over their last five they’ve won four and drawn one while away from home they’ve won three and drawn two.

While Reading have been scoring at home, Bournemouth have only conceded in one of their seven away games this season and six of those seven games saw Under 2.5 goals. Four of Reading’s last five Championship games have also seen Unders. Nobody likes watching a dull game lacking goals but the value here is sticking with Bournemouth’s stingy defence and Reading’s lack of goals. Under 2.5 Goals is our first pick.

20.00: Lyon v Lens – Lens and Draw

The pressure will be on Lens here to keep their good form going in their attempt to stay within touching distance of PSG. Lyon though are in robust form of late, winning three, drawing one and losing one of their last five in all competitions. Lyon’s home form is good too, over their six home games this season, they’ve won three and drawn three. Lens have won three and lost two of their last five.

Away from home they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one. Lens have scored 20 over their 11 league games, Lyon have scored 18 so you’d expect both teams to get on the scoresheet here. The market though are favouring the home side here but Lens have only lost once away from home this campaign and Lyon, as mentioned above, have drawn half of their home games this season. The value then is in opposing the home side and backing Lens on the Double Chance.

20.00: Barcelona v Alaves – Barcelona to Win and BTTS

The writing had been on the walls for an awfully long time but Barcelona finally put Ronald Koeman out to pasture following yet another defeat during the week to Rayo Vallecano. The good news for Barca though is that they’re actually in decent home form, winning three of their last five in the league at the Nou Camp, drawing one and losing one. Alaves are in decent form it must be said, winning three of their last five, losing the other two. Away from home, however, they’ve lost three of their four La Liga games this season, winning the other.

It looks like Xavi will be taking the job and indeed he’s got a job on his hands to sort out this squad but the talent is certainly there and a few players will be wanting to impress their incoming coach. Barcelona have won this fixture for the last 10 meetings in a row with Alaves scoring in eight of them and with their defence struggling this season, it’s hard not to see Alaves getting at least one here. Barcelona will play with some freedom, Koeman pretty much killed any creativity in the side and the players will want to make a statement. We’re backing both teams to score and the home side to win.

21.15: Sporting v Vitoria Guimaraes – Sporting to Win

Sporting are in mighty form of late, winning all five of their most recent fixtures. At home in the league, they’ve won four of their last five, drawing the other one. They’re favourites to win here against Vitoria who they’ve beaten over seven of their last eight visits to Lisbon.

Vitoria are in strong enough form, winning two, drawing two and losing one of their last five in the league. Away from home they’ve proven tough to beat this season, winning one and drawing three. Sporting though should have enough and we see them continuing their fine home form here. We’re backing the home side to take the three points here.
