DRAW

Both sides currently sit side by side in the Premier League table and a draw seems the most likely result at present due to their poor form in recent games.

Draw Match Odds

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – YES

Both Arsenal and Villa have conceded 12 league goals this season at a rate of 1.5 goals per game, but Arsenal have shown a bit more defensive stability recently, keeping three clean sheets in their last six games. However, they were ripped apart by Crystal Palace at times on Monday night and have managed just one home clean sheet all season against a Norwich side that has only scored twice in eight games.

Yes Both Teams To Score

OLLIE WATKINS TO SCORE ANYTIME

Ollie Watkins scored his only goal of the season so far in an away game at Tottenham earlier in October, but could flourish again in North London. Watkins was Villa’s top scorer last term, however, he now has to share the limelight with new arrival Danny Ings as Dean Smith builds a more robust attacking line-up. However, he is a tempting bet to find the back of the net on Friday given his excellent record against Mikel Arteta’s men last season. Watkins netted three goals in two games against the Gunners as Villa did the double over Arsenal for the first time since 1993.

5/2
Ollie Watkins Anytime Goalscorer

JOHN MCGINN TO BE SHOWN A CARD

As vital as John McGinn is to the Villa midfield, he is something of a liability when it comes to picking up yellow cards. The Scottish midfielder was Villa’s most booked player last season, picking up 12 yellow cards in 37 appearances at a rate of effectively one card in every three games.

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I’m looking at 2-1. I don’t think it’s going to be a goal-fest by any means but 2-1 to the Gooners. A goalscorer is easy – Aubameyang to Score Anytime. He does seem to be on a hot streak and he will be at the top of the goal-scoring markets, but putting that together with Both Teams to Score and Aubameyang to be on the scoresheet, I think it will bump up your price a bit.”

CHELSEA TO WIN

Sorry Norwich fans, it’s inevitable. After picking apart Malmo during the week, this side will be brimming with confidence, and have no shortage of options to step in for the injured Lukaku and Werner. The sheer depth of this Chelsea side is enough to leave the Canaries in worse condition than their time spent in the mines!

1/6
Chelsea Match Odds

MATEO KOVACIC ANYTIME ASSIST

Kovacic leads this Chelsea side in assists so far this season with three in seven starts. With a Norwich side that is struggling to adapt back to the Premier League, expect to see Chelsea pick apart this midfield and defence with the Croatian leading the charge laying passes on for Kai Havertz and company.

4/1
Mateo Kovacic Anytime Assist

OVER 3.5 GOALS

Chelsea put four beyond two different keepers for Malmo midweek. The Swedes, overall, as much of a surprise as this might be, are a better side than Norwich. This game could very easily get out of hand as it did for Norwich against Man City. It won’t take a Tuchel masterclass for Chelsea to break down this Norwich side.

8/5
Over 3.5 Goals Over/Under 3.5 Goals

KAI HAVERTZ TO HAVE 2 OR MORE SHOTS ON TARGET

With Werner and Lukaku out, the baton is passed to German starlet Havertz, and he won’t disappoint.

8/11
Kai Havertz Player To Have 2 Or More Shots On Target

OVER 1.5 CARDS

Norwich are yet to be involved in a game this season with less than two yellow cards dished out. With a huge 14 yellow cards combined seen in their last two games alone. Chelsea, while very disciplined, have seen no more than one yellow card in a Premier League game since playing Man City on September 25th.

2/9
Over 1.5 Cards Cards Over/Under 1.5

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO

Chelsea, overall, are stout defensively, only conceding three goals in eight games this season, while scoring 18 of their own. Expect this game to be played very much in Norwich’s defensive third!. Basically, don’t expect to see Norwich adding to their whopping goals total of two on Saturday afternoon.

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I’ve gone for a convincing Chelsea Win. Being kind to Norwich, I’m going 3-0 to Chelsea. Jorginho, I think, has got to be my goal scorer. He is on the penalties – I know he’s missed one or two – but he does take a fine penalty. So, I’m going to go for Jorginho to Score Anytime.”

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO

The Eagles and the Magpies have both netted 10 times this season. Not only that, but they’re within an xG tally of 0.1 of each other too. Honestly, where would you get it? Both have technically overachieved to some degree on that front, so we take the chance on both cancelling each other out and returning to base.

19/20
No Both Teams To Score

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I fancy Crystal Palace to beat Newcastle at Selhurst Park as I really don’t see the Toon’s takeover affecting their performances in the near future. Palace, meanwhile, come into the game off the back of their impressive performance at Arsenal on Monday night.”

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO

The thing about them is that, no matter how progressive the coaching appointment; no matter how loud the crowd and no matter how big the splash in the transfer market, they’ll ultimately come up short when it seems like they’re right on the cusp of turning the tide. They’re overshooting their xG tally, and by a decent bit. They’re ahead of sides like Man City in that regard, and Spurs – although that’s less of a surprise. Luckily for them, so are Watford – but largely because their xG total is the lowest in the league.

4/5
No Both Teams To Score

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I know Everton are still without Dominic Calvert-Lewin but they should still have enough to beat Watford, who looked terrible against Liverpool last weekend.”

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – YES

Both know they need a win. Both know they deserve a win. And both definitely fancy themselves being better than the other. Even putting the metrics aside here, anything but three points for either of these sides is somewhat of a failure, as they struggle to come to terms with what exactly they’re trying to be. And when you factor in the metrics? Wolves have a higher xG than Man United and Leicester, and have only scored eight times. Leeds? Also over a goal under their expected total. Expect Warfare!

Yes Both Teams To Score

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “As for Wolves, I really fancy them to win at Leeds. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are struck with injuries and they’ve really struggled at the start of the season. Wolves came from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa last week so they’ll have plenty of confidence heading into this one.”

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – YES

Two of the bottom four sides in the league in terms of xG underperformance, it can clearly be seen that the patterns of play these two are putting together are worthy of your attention – they’re just missing a player to net multiple values over their xG expectancy. With Danny Ings gone and Chris Wood being about as consistent as the last season of Game of Thrones, it’s hard to nail down definites here. But, they can’t keep underperforming at this level, so we hand them both the nod.

MANCHESTER CITY TO WIN

The Seagulls can rightly argue that they are stronger than the reigning Belgian champions. However, the simple fact remains that you have to go back almost two years to find the last away league game against a non-big six side that Manchester City lost while the title was still alive, and even then, there’s only been two since then anyway. It just doesn’t tend to happen. On that basis, it has to be City to win here.

2/5
Man City Match Odds

UNDER 2.5 GOALS

We’ve already noted that Brighton haven’t been scoring too often this season but in fairness they haven’t conceded that many either. Their last two matches have both ended 0-0, and they needed a 95th-minute goal to get a 1-1 draw at Palace in the game before that. Only two of their eight games so far have paid out on over 2.5 goals, and even then, they only hit the three-goal requirement and didn’t go any higher. Can City run riot here though? It’s always possible – before losing 3-2 at Brighton last season, their preceding two visits ended 5-0 and 4-1 in their favour. But striker-less City haven’t been scoring too many on the road in the league.

19/20
Under 2.5 Goals Over/Under 2.5 Goals

FIRST GOALSCORER – RAHEEM STERLING

There’s reason to believe Raheem Sterling may get the nod in the central position though. He has alternated in and out of the starting XI across the last six games, beginning the recent match in Belgium on the bench, and he’s been at the centre of the front three when selected. He’s also due a couple of goals according to his underlying numbers.

HOME TEAM OVER 1.5 CARDS

You don’t tend to think of Brighton as a dirty side, yet they have picked up more bookings than any other team in the Premier League this season. They’re consistent too, having yet to get through 90 minutes in 2021/22 without seeing yellow.

OVER 2.5 GOALS

Despite this fixture’s history of delivering dour struggles, recent evidence suggests this should be a high-scoring affair. United’s last two fixtures have had a combined 11 goals and their only clean sheet this season was of the incredibly fortunate variety at Molineux. We could easily see Over 2.5 Goals here.

1/2
Over 2.5 Goals Over/Under 2.5 Goals

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE

Liverpool have been far more solid defensively than the Red Devils but they were badly exposed on the counter-attack by Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann in midweek which will give United cause for optimism. Added to that, Virgil van Dijk doesn’t quite look back to his regal best and a pacey United attack could cause Liverpool’s defence plenty of issues as Both Teams Score.

4/9
Yes Both Teams To Score

MO SALAH TO HAVE AN ASSIST

It’s not just the incredible goals that Mo Salah’s scoring that is putting the Egyptian as a late contender for the Ballon D’or, his passing and playmaking have significantly improved from last season too which is borne out by the numbers.

Salah is averaging 2.5 key passes per game this season compared to 1.5 last term and he’s racked up four assists in eight matches which is only one less than he had in the whole of the last league season.

7/2
Mohamed Salah Anytime Assist

FABINHO TO BE CARDED

In a game where United will carry a huge threat on the break, we can expect at least a couple of cynical fouls from Liverpool’s midfield which will hopefully see us complete our 4 leg Bet Builder. Fabinho is the most likely to be carded for the away side.

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “This is pointing towards Liverpool winning this but guys this is one where you can throw everything out the window. I do fancy goals in this and I do fancy two people who will do the scoring. I’m going for Desmond, 2-2 and Marcus Rashford to Score Anytime and Mo Salah to Score Anytime.”
