Scotland’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar got a massive shot in the arm after beating Austria last time out, but it will all be for nothing if they lose to Israel later today. Top spot looks too far off the Scots, given how impressive Denmark have been in every aspect over the last 12 months or so.

Here they host Israel who sit one place and one point behind them in 3rd place of Group F. It’s going to be a fascinating match up with two teams who like to go at it in very differing manners.

Steve Clarke’s crew keep it tight and eke out wins or draws while the Israelis opt for a boom or bust approach. The fact that the visitors to Hampden have scored five more and conceded six more over their six qualifying games than their hosts so far sums this up perfectly.

How many times have we seen it when two sides like this meet that it’s the more organised and cautious side who prevail through defensive solidarity? Could it be that the away side drag Scotland into the gutter for a proper old-fashioned stramash? Let’s try and work it out through the medium of a Bet Builder.

Saturday 5pm: Scotland v Israel
Sky Sports Premier League

Scotland to Win

First up, these two sides have history – and recent history, at that. A bit like Ireland and Denmark, these two nations have met more than either is probably comfortable with in recent times. And, the strangest thing? They’d never met before 2018. Since 2018 they’ve played each other six times.

Scotland have won one, Israel have won two and there’ve been three draws in the mix. In those games there’s never been more than a one-goal margin in it so this one is always tight. However, I’m going to plump for the Scotland Win here.

The Tartan Army’s form over the last few games has been pretty good and they’ve been able to control games to a certain extent. With a packed and pumped up Hampden cheering them on, I think we’ll see a narrow Scotland Win.

Under 2.5 Goals

A narrow win with Under 2.5 Goals. While Unders is a bit of a rarity when Israel play – it hasn’t landed since they played, err, Scotland seven games ago – it’s de rigueur when the home side play. I’d be tempted to think that Scotland might get drawn into Israel’s thrilling madness but Unders has landed the last four times these two have met and in five of the host’s last six games.

I’m a bit disappointed with the price, especially considering some of the barmy score lines Israel have recorded in their last few games, but I think this is the most likely outcome here. Scotland will do everything in their power to keep it tight and we should see history repeating itself here.

Lyndon Dykes to Score First

Lyndon Dykes is a man in form for the Scots, scoring their last two goals, both the only of the game in successive 1-0 wins. It takes some serious cajones to swap the Gold Coast for Glasgow but that’s what our selection has done.

He clearly knows a good thing when he sees it and who am I to argue? He’s in decent scoring form for QPR in the Championship and takes penalties for his country. What’s not to like? Lyndon Dykes to Score First in a low-scoring game is your best bet in this field.

Eran Zahavi to have 1 or More Shots on Target

Eran Zahavi became Israel’s all-time top scorer during the last international break, going two clear of the long-retired Mordechai Spiegler in Israel’s thumping 5-2 win over Austria with a brace. If you think Dykes is in good form then check out some of the 34-year-old’s numbers.

The PSV hitman has seven goals in his last six international games, but he was shackled by the Scots the last time they met in this group. His career might be winding down a bit but what might be lacking in the legs is still very-much present in the top two inches. Expect Eran Zahavi to Have 1 or More Shots in Target here.
