Paddy Power football trader Emmet O’Keeffe has dialled into another Zoom call with the good folk at PPTV to give you a midweek steer or three. It’s a heavyweight clash as Italy host Spain in their Nations League semi final at San Siro on Wednesday.
These two met recently in the Euro 2020 semi final as Roberto Mancini’s Italy scraped through after a penalty shootout. But, is it going to be a similar story here? Here’s Emmet’s verdict.
We might not see a repeat of the Euro 2020 semi final where Spain had the better of the game but Italy managed to drag them to penalties and nick it there. Spain have two huge absences in Barcelona’s young star Pedri and Dani Olmo, who also impressed during the Euros.
Both will be absent for Spain and I think that just makes the task for them all the much harder. Italy haven’t lost in any of their last 37 matches, an incredible run going back to 2018. But, I think Italy have shown recent struggles in front of goal.
They only scored one goal against Bulgaria in recent World Cup qualifiers and were held goalless by Switzerland. If Italy are going to Win I think it will be a low-scoring game. So, Italy to Win To Nil is the way I’d look. Braver punters might even take a chance on Italy to Win 1-0.
I wouldn’t put anyone off Jorginho but the one I like is Lorenzo Insigne to Score First. He’s a player who takes plenty of shots so that will give you a chance there. He’s a player who raises his level for Italy and I’d lean towards him rather than Ciro Immobile.
