Paddy Power football ambassador Phil Thompson turns his steely gaze towards Aston Villa’s trip to Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday at 12.30pm. He’s flanked by our top football trader Paddy Murphy to help you make hay in this early kick off.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
United are the top-scoring team in the Premier League so far this season but will Villa be able to keep them at bay? The Red Devils always seem to concede but get the win. So, which way’s this one going to go lads?
12.30pm: Manchester United v Aston Villa
JASON
Here’s what I’m looking at for this game, essentially Villa have a lot of injury doubts. Leon Baily, fantastic cameo when he came on against Everton, actually injured himself scoring his first goal for the club. Their two full backs, Matty Cash and Matt Targett are actually doubts for this game.
Most important of all, John McGinn, people might not realise how important he is to Villa and he’ll actually move the price if he doesn’t play. But, if three of the four of those players are on the pitch then Manchester Untied are, for me, too short a price in this game.
If you look at the two games last season between these teams, Villa scored in both games and the game at Villa Park in particular, Bruno Fernandes got one of the softest penalties I’ve ever seen. For me, the angle I’d pick with that attacking threat that Villa have, especially as they really took it to Chelsea, is Both Teams to Score. I’d rather be on that than the price of Man United to Win which I think is too short.
THOMMO
I’m going for Manchester United to Win to Nil, actually Jason. United are unbeaten in their last 18 versus Villa in all competitions which is quite astonishing, so there is a little bit of a hoodoo. United have won 14 of them.
I think everything is favouring Manchester United, I really do. They’re the top scorers with 13 goals, all in open play which is astonishing for Manchester United! I just think this has got United written all over it.
As you alluded to Jason, with the injuries to Villa, I don’t know, I just can’t see a Villa result. Their only win, I’ve got it written down here, in the last 21 years was in 2009 1-0 to Aston Villa with Gabby Agbonlahor scoring.
I think everything’s favouring Manchester United. They did the double over them last season and I’ll go Manchester United to Win to Nil. I think Cristiano Ronaldo might be a bit short and he’s helping boost Bruno Fernandes’ price in the goal scorer markets.
We’re still a bit unsure who’s going to take the penalties. I’m going Manchester United to Win 2-0 with Bruno Fernandes to Score Anytime and get one of them.
