Not because it’s a touch closer to the Europa League, but because the opening night still feels like you’ve more than half your working week left and nobody needs that.
Wednesday is the blow-off day. And with my help here, I fully anticipate a good run at midweek profit and all.

As I’ve done throughout the season to a decent level of success, I’ll tell you whether or not both teams will score in a segmented kickoff time, so you can watch the goals fly in, or wish them off the line as the shots fly on target.
Without further ado, let’s get cracking on the 8pm kickoffs that round off the opening week of Champions League action.
FAO Arsenal – it’s a competition that takes place among the top clubs in Europe, where they compete against one another in order to lift a trophy at season’s end.

Atletico Madrid v Porto – No
This is one of the worst Porto sides in a while, who lack real conviction in front of goal. Their goal tally of just nine in their first five Primera Division games is a concern, but even the passive nature in which they’re moving the ball is alarming.
They’re overly-reliant on Toni Martinez is central areas and that will eventually catch up to them unless Pepe turns into the player they believe he was about to become at Gremio. Until then, they’ll not be scoring away to top-class opposition.
Club Brugge v PSG – No
PSG control games far better than they used to. It was a theme of Poch at Spurs and very much now in Paris, even with the front three at his disposal, there’s a level of calm amid the madness.
With that in mind, it probably means they won’t be slapping teams for six like they could do in Europe – but instead winning more and more games to-nil – particularly sides who are lucky to be in competition in the first place.
Inter Milan v Real Madrid – Yes
Betcha you can’t remember the last time Madrid were this price in a group stage game, can you?
In truth, their pursual of Kylian Mbappe wasn’t just a PR boost or an attempt at flogging kit – they’re very Karim Benzema-dependent in Spain now, while Inter are coming off a season where they won a league title, but lost both Romelu Lukaku and Antonio Conte.
That being said, there’s still more than enough to exploit a Real side who are quite indifferent in the middle of the park.
Liverpool v AC Milan – Yes
The fun thing about Milan is their strength is Liverpool’s weakness – converting big chances.
Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are both terrific footballers in their own right, and while the former is finding the net with regular aplomb, the latter remains the only player with more than three big chances this year in the Premier League to miss more than half of them.
Milan may not get a tonne of chances, but you can almost guarantee they’ll be converting one of them.
Man City v RB Leipzig – No
One of the biggest myths in football is that RB Leipzig are progressive.
They’re incredibly cynical and still some way off Dortmund, even if the Yellow and Black stumble sometimes and rely too heavily on the player Manchester City are clearly missing.
But that’s besides the point – with Marcel Sabitzer going to Bayern, they really do lack someone to create in central areas. Given the selflessness of City’s wingers, you’ll find it very, very tough to get anything going against them out wide. It’s a blank for the Germans.
Ajax v Sporting Lisbon – No
Ajax, for some god-known reason, still possess world class footballers, despite selling all of their former world class footballers for massive profit margins.
It just goes to show that if you invest in your academy and don’t hand all the attention to 36-year-old a***holes, you’ll land in a good spot.
Sporting, hilariously, are responsible for the nurturing of the aforementioned a***ehole, and that’s where my comparisons end.
They’ve been a touch better than Porto so far, but they’re considerably naive – and going to Amsterdam to face a well-oiled machine doesn’t feel like a task they’ll be mastering.
