Manchester United to Win and Both Teams to Score

Manchester United enjoyed the perfect return after the international break with a comprehensive win over Newcastle that evoked memories of the Alex Ferguson era and it is difficult to see them slipping up in Switzerland with such momentum behind them.

United were ordinary for large parts of the 4-1 victory over Newcastle, but there was a sense of inevitability about the win that hasn’t really existed since Ferguson left in 2013.

They now face the weakest team in their Champions League group on paper and should have little problems picking up an early victory.

Young Boys have endured a difficult start to life in the Swiss Super League, dropping seven points in their opening five games.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

They have leaked goals throughout their Champions League qualifying campaign, conceding two goals in each of their last three qualifiers against Ferencvaros (twice) and Slovan Bratislava.

However, they also scored three in each of those games and are clearly capable of causing problems for a United defence that has looked shaky in the opening four games of the season.

United offered Newcastle several opportunities on the break at Old Trafford on Saturday, while they presented numerous chances to both Wolves and Southampton before the international break.

The Red Devils opened two of their last three Champions League campaigns with 3-0 wins over Swiss opposition but may struggle to keep a clean sheet in Bern on Tuesday night.

Anthony Martial to Score Anytime

Martial has some work to do to salvage his Manchester United career and is in danger of falling even further down the pecking order following Jesse Lingard’s late goal during a cameo appearance against Newcastle. There are some promising signs, however.

Martial looked sharp when he was sprung from the bench on Saturday, and it was his dummy more than Paul Pogba’s pass that opened the door for Lingard to score United’s fourth.

The Frenchman also bagged his first goal for France in five years over the international break, which will do his confidence the world of good.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to rotate his squad for Tuesday’s trip to Bern and with Edinson Cavani still recovering from a knock, there is a good chance that Martial will be handed a starting berth.

He scored in United’s 3-0 win over the same opposition in 2018, kickstarting a run of goalscoring form at a time when he badly needed it. He simply has to do the same on Tuesday night.

Manchester United to Win 3-1

United seem capable of scoring from all angles at present and it is difficult to see a porous Young Boys defence keeping them at bay.

Solskjaer has so many options that he can turn to if things are not going United’s way, making it highly improbably that Young Boys will be able to contain United for 90 minutes.

They have conceded twice in each of their last two Champions League home games and also shipped three goals in a 4-3 win over Luzern, who are currently bottom of the Swiss League.

A much-changed United side should still make light work of the Young Boys defence, while out-of-form players should be eyeing a morale-boosting goal.

They may leak a goal at the other end, however, against a side that will attack a somewhat vulnerable United defence at every opportunity.
