The second leg of a bumper Bank Holiday weekend in the Vanarama National League gets underway at 3pm on Monday with nine games all kicking off for your afternoon delectation – and we’ve put a cracking acca together for it….

15:00 Torquay v Woking – Torquay win & BTTS

Torquay, playoff final losers last season, started this campaign as one of the promotion favourites, but boss Gary Johnson has had to deal with some departures, most notably their goalscoring keeper Lucas Covolan and a 3-1 loss on the opening day to newly-promoted Altrincham didn’t bode well.

However, they battled to a creditable 1-1 draw with a fancied Notts County side on Saturday despite being a man down for much of the game and only champions Sutton United and Stockport County scored more goals than the Devon side last season, so they shouldn’t have trouble finding the net on Monday.

Whether they can avoid conceding them is another matter. Opponents Woking won their opening game away at Wealdstone 2-1 but lost 3-2 at home to Halifax last time out, so they’ve seen plenty of goals too. Add in the recent, burgeoning rivalry between the two teams and this should have the makings of a feisty affair, and we’d back Torquay to squeak it by the odd goal.

15:00 Dagenham & Redbridge v Barnet: Dagenham To Win & Over 1.5 Goals

While some had been tipping Dagenham & Redbridge to be in-and-around play-off contention, The Daggers seem to have loftier ambitions and they have exploded out of the blocks this term. Daryl McMahon’s men sit on top of the table as we head into Monday’s games with two wins from two games played, scoring a whopping seven goals in the process.

They make the trip across London to meet a Barnet outfit looking to kick start their campaign. The Bees have only managed a single point from the two league matches they played this season and they’ll be looking to put a 5-0 defeat to Notts County in their opening home fixture to bed in this one.

However, the form points only one way and that is to a victory for the visitors. When you add in the leaky defence of the home side – which has conceded six goals already this season- and Dagenham’s current confidence in front of goal, adding Over 1.5 Goals to this bet could be a nice little cherry on top.

15:00 Aldershot v Yeovil Town: Yeovil To Win

With both of these teams sitting on zero points so far this season, you’d be forgiven for asking us why we are including this in our betslip. But, bear with us!

Only three goals separated these too in the table last term, with Aldershot just pipping Yeovil for 15th in the standings on the final as they both finished on 52 points. But, The Shots have started this campaign with two disappointing loss, going down to Chesterfield and Boreham Wood respectively. They also failed to score in either of those contests.

Yeovil opening fixture with Wrexham was postponed due to Covid-19 issues in The Glovers squad, and they went down to a late 2-1 defeat at home to King’s Lynn Town on Saturday. However, Darren Sarll’s side can be forgiven for that defeat given it was their first game in three weeks and they had Matt Worthington sent off in the 38th minute.

We reckon there more reasons to be worried about the home side’s form here, so we’re backing Yeovil to pick up the three points at The EBB Stadium on Monday.

15:00 Dover Athletic v Boreham Wood: Boreham To Win

Burdened with a 12 point deduction to start the season, this was always going to be an uphill struggle for Dover Athletic, and the last thing they needed after their curtailed 2020/21 campaign was the Covid outbreak that saw their opening day fixture against Solihull Moors postponed.

Instead, they kicked-off against Maidenhead on Saturday, going down 2-0, and with the sanctions against them already seemingly dooming them to the drop this season, manager Andy Hessenthaler faces a tough challenge to inspire them this year.

There are no such troubles at Boreham Wood, who have put a pair of wins together against unfancied Weymouth and Aldershot. Dover look another likely scalp in what could be a surprise promotion challenge for Luke Garrard’s side despite the sale of Kabongo Tshimanga and last season’s disappointing 14th place finish. High on confidence, y6ou’d have to fancy them at the price against a side in turmoil.
