Football Tips: Our 33/1 Bet Builder for West Brom v Arsenal EFL Cup clash

Our tipster Colin Harvey wonders if the Baggies can pile on the misery.

Where do you start with Arsenal? Two games, two defeats and one club in crisis. Again. The under-pressure Mikel Arteta probably needs a midweek EFL Cup trip to West Brom like a hole in the head.

This looks to be a serious potential banana skin for The Gunners who face a side just three places below them in the footballing pyramid. Sure, they’re separated by a division but can the Premier League’s 19th-placed side losing to The Championship’s 2nd-placed really be considered an upset?

Probably not, but it would certainly cause uproar in certain parts of north London. So, is another social media meltdown inevitable or will Arteta and Co get a shrug of approval after winning a game they were expected to? Let’s take a look and see where the value is for a nice Bet Builder on Wednesday night.

Double Chance: West Brom Win or Draw

Straight off the bat, it’s impossible to guess what kind of side Arteta’s going to be sending out here. I suspect the plan would have been for it to be rather weak, but the need for a win – any win – is growing stronger at The Emirates with Manchester City next up in the Premier League.

I think Arteta would love to bin off the Carabao Cup, but the metrics at the moment means he’ll need to send out a strongish side at worse. Whether a strongish side proves to be the first team or not remains to be seen.

However, I don’t think they’ll win, not inside the 90 anyway. West Brom will probably field a decent side and while it won’t have the quality of whatever Arsenal side take to the field, they seem to have a far better idea what they’re actually trying to do right now.

They’re unbeaten from their four games, drawing their opener before winning the next three. Those results have not come against the calibre of sides Arsenal have been playing, but The Baggies are in good nick and they’ll be up for this one. West Brom to Win or Draw after 90 minutes kicks us off here.

Over 2.5 Goals

Unlike Arsenal, the hosts have been among the goals. Arsenal have lost both of their games 2-0, but Overs has landed in all four of West Brom’s matches this season. In fact, The Baggies have witnessed 16 goals in their four games, an average of four per game.

With Arsenal’s goals and games thrown in, their combined aggregate is 3.33 goals per game. The numbers are suggesting we should see Over 2.5 Goals quite easily here and maybe, just maybe, Arsenal will score their first goal of the season to help us along here.

Callum Robinson to Score Anytime

In a game full of questions, one thing is for sure; Arsenal’s defence is shambolic. You have to fancy West Brom to score at least once and a man in form in the final third for them is Callum Robinson. He’s already notched three times in four games for the Midlands side this term and is emerging as their key outlet. Callum Robinson so Score Anytime might be your best play in terms of a goal scorer as I suspect he’ll start.

Dara O’Shea to have 1 or More Shots

Centre back Dara O’Shea has already scored twice this term and, coming up against that weak Arsenal defence for set pieces, he might be licking his lips again at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night. We’re nowhere near brave enough to back him to score, but at a nice price it’s worth siding with O’Shea To Have 1 or More Shots here.

Over 10.5 Corners

One thing that’s been clear from Arsenal’s two games this term is that they’re relying heavily on their wide players. It hasn’t quite come off yet but they’ve been getting into attacking positions and forcing corners. In their two games so far they’ve had 14 corners, an average of seven per game.

West Brom have also been racking up the corners, with an average of 6.75 per game. If those trends continue we’re looking at around 14 of them here. West Brom are probably going to have to surrender possession and their stats in this department might be down but, on the other hand, Arsenal’s are likely to be up. Either way Over 10.5 Corners looks like a smart play to round us up here.
