The Draw

Both West Ham and Leicester got off the winning starts on the opening day of the season last weekend, but neither side were entirely convincing.

West Ham managed to score four goals in a thrilling win over Newcastle at St. James’ Park, but they also conceded twice against a side that rarely threatened against Aston Villa on Saturday.

They also relied on a dubious penalty decision to get them over the line in Sunday’s victory and will need to improve against superior opposition on Monday night.

Leicester, meanwhile, were quite ordinary in their 1-0 win over Wolves on opening day and don’t look to have hit top gear just yet.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

However, there is the caveat that they were taking on a stubborn Wolves side that is always difficult to break down.

West Ham did the double over Leicester last season but may have to settle for a draw on Monday night.

There is a real possibility that the Hammers benefitted more than most clubs from the absence of fans such are the pressures of playing in front of a home crowd at the London Stadium.

Michail Antonio to Score Anytime

Antonio can establish himself as West Ham’s outright top goalscorer in the Premier League era if he finds the back of the net against Leicester on Monday, and it is difficult to back against him.

Antonio is a thorn in the side of every defence he comes up against and is West Ham’s main attacking threat provided that he can stay fit.

He has finished as the club’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons, despite missing a huge chunk of fixtures due to injury.

Antonio found the back of the net in West Ham’s 3-0 win at Leicester last season and may return to haunt the Foxes once more on Monday night.

Tomas Soucek to be Booked

Soucek may be West Ham’s biggest goal threat outside of Antonio, but he is also the most likely player wearing claret and blue to end up in the referee’s notebook.

The towering Czech midfielder made roughly two fouls a game last season and was booked seven times throughout the Premier League campaign, the most of any West Ham player.

He will be tasked with shutting down a tricky Leicester midfield that oozes quality through the likes of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

Barnes and Maddison were among the most-fouled players in the league last season despite missing a large chuck of league fixtures and Soucek will certainly have his hands full on Monday night.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him pick up West Ham’s first booking of the season in what will be a highly charged atmosphere.

Kelechi Iheanacho to Have One or More Shots on Target

Iheanacho established himself as Leicester’s main attacking threat during the second half of last season and will look to continue that into the new season.

Iheanacho finished as the club’s top scorer in all competitions and got the new season off to the best possible start by scoring the winner in the Community Shield against former club Manchester City.

He averaged roughly two shots and one shot on target per appearance last season, with many of those appearances coming off the bench, so expect him to try his luck far more often over the next nine months.

He should earn his first league start of the season at the London Stadium and it is almost inconceivable that he would fail to register at least one shot on target, especially considering he scored twice in this fixture last season.
