Let’s get stuck into the stats then and show your our five-fold acca that’s stuffed with value.

16.30: Arsenal v Chelsea – Chelsea to Win

While Arsenal have received a fair amount of stick for their opening day loss away to Brentford, they weren’t actually all that bad and had it not been for some excellent goalkeeping from Brentford’s David Raya the Gunners could have emerged with a point at least. There’s no denying though they’ve had a bad preseason and their transfer window has been, well, meh, oh and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Alex Runarsson and Willian have all had Covid, the first two may return by Sunday.

Champions League winners Chelsea have bolstered their side with Romelu Lukaku and will be looking to make a statement of intent here. They were excellent in their opening game against Crystal Palace but it must be said that Chelsea have only beaten Arsenal once over their last five competitive meetings. And at the Emirates they’ve won none of their last five meetings there. However, Sunday should see that trend bucking. Arsenal are in a bit of a mess, they even lost to Hearts over their preseason games and against Chelsea’s experienced backbone and solid defence they’re going to struggle. We’re going with the Blues to get a rare win at the Emirates.

16.30: Bayern Munich v FC Koln – Bayern to Win to Nil

Koln haven’t won at the Allianz Arena since 2009, a run of 11 games where Bayern have won seven and four ended level. Koln really struggled for goals last season, averaging just 0.82 goals per away game while conceding 1.71.

Their final seven away games of last season saw Koln scoring in just three games. Bayern, on the other hand, kept three clean sheets over their last five league games at home. Koln have failed to score over three of their last five visits to Bayern and we see that trend continuing. Bayern to Win to Nil is our pick here.

17.30: Udinese v Juventus – Juventus to Win & BTTS

Udinese have only beaten Juventus at home once over their last 10 visits. The Old Lady has won six of those meetings with three ending level. Like Chelsea above, Juventus have a point to prove this season and will want to hit the ground running especially with all the changes at reigning champions Inter.

Udinese make it tough for Juve on every visit though. Both Teams to Score has landed in four of the last five meetings and Juve conceded in eight out of 10 of their most previous away Serie A matches. With those stats we have to go with the Old Lady winning here and BTTS landing too.

18.30: Atletico Madrid v Elche – Atletico to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0

Atletico have hosted Elches four times in all competitions since 2014, winning to nil in three of them. As you’re more than likely aware of, Atletico have one of the stingiest defences in world football and conceded just 0.58 goals per game on average last season.

Elche were one of the lowest-scoring teams on the road in La Liga last season, averaging 0.84 goals per game and failed to score in three of their last six away games and, as mentioned above, failed to score in three of their last visits to the Wanda Metropolitano. We’re going with Atletico to Win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0.

19.45: Roma v Fiorentina – Roma to Win

Roma began the Jose Mourinho reign with a 1-2 away win over Trabzonspor in the UEFA Conference League. Here’s an interesting stat for you; when he was Inter manager he didn’t lose one of his 38 home Serie A games. So the omens are good for a home win here.

Fiorentina had a pretty rough season last time around and only won two of their last 10 away games while Roma ended their Serie A season with seven home wins out of their last 10. Over their previous five visits to Roma Fiorentina have only managed to win one, with Roma winning three and one ending level. We’re going with a home win here.

Game to Swerve:

21.00: Levante v Real Madrid

Real began their La Liga season with a 1-4 away win over Alaves even though they were missing a fair amount of first team players. Still on the treatment table at the time of writing are Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos, Marcelo and Ferland Mendy. Both Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale played last week but a light breeze may blow them over at any time and cause a serious injury. Messing aside, Levante have beaten Real in two out of their last three meetings and at home Real have only won at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia in two of their last four attempts. Could be a lively match to watch but we’re not touching it with a bargepole.
