4.30pm: HIFK Helsinki v KTP – Under 2.5 Goals

HIFK, sat 6th in the Veikkausliiga, take on 11th-placed KTP on Friday looking to strengthen their loose grip on their place in the top-six playoffs at the end of the season. The Finnish top flight is just over half-way through and HIFK have a two-point cushion between themselves and Ilves in 7th and a post-season relegation series.

KTP look destined for the latter fate and have only won one game of their 12 so far this term, drawing four and losing seven. Their hosts have won five, drawn four and lost three. HIFK have scored less than a goal a game, netting 11 and conceding just 9.

KTP have scored 10 and shipped 20 so both have a combined average of fewer than one goal scored per game. The visitors are quite leaky but we’re backing HIFK’s poor goal-scoring form to continue (one goal scored in their last five games) with Under 2.5 Goals.

6pm: Rostov v Dinamo Moscow – Rostov to Win

The Russian Premier League kicks off on Friday and Rostov host Dinamo Moscow in the opener. It’s a match that sees last season’s 9th and 7th placed teams facing off, looking to get upwardly mobile and challenge for European spots.

Historically this match has favoured whoever is playing at home, with all four of these two’s meetings in the last two seasons ending in home wins. Going further back, it’s nine games ago that the away side triumphed with six home wins and two draws thrown into the mix.

With it being the first game of the season we don’t have much to go on so we’re relying on history to guide us here. These are two faily evenly-matched teams, as last season’s table tells, but we’re going with the results form and a Rostov Win here.

RB Salzburg

7.30pm: Sturm Graz v RB Salzburg – Over 3.5 Goals

It’s a similar story in Austria where Sturm Graz kick off their 2021/22 campaign at home to defending champions RB Salzburg. The energy-drink club finished 15 points clear at the top of the table and the same number ahead of Sturm Graz who came 3rd behind Rapid Wien on goal difference.

It was honours even between the two last term with two wins each, but RB turned it on when it mattered, winning both games in the top-six playoff on their way to the title. It’s interesting to note that the champions lost both regular-season games.

There were an average of 3.75 goals per game between these two last term, with Sturm’s 2-1 home win in February the lowest scoring. Looking at least season’s fixtures we can’t rely on RB to stroll to victory so will instead side with Over 3.5 Goals.

7.45pm: Standard Liege v KRC Genk – Under 2.5 Goals

KRC Genk kick off their 2021/22 campaign away at Standard Liege looking to go one better after they just missed out on the title to Club Brugge last season. Liege finished 6th in the regular season and managed to successfully tank the Conference League playoff group and avoid strenuous extra continental action.

Liege have historically had the better of this particular match up but Genk have turned the tables recently, in terms of league position at least. Both matches last term ended in draws while Liege won both the season before.

Generally speaking, matches between these two are low-scoring affairs and the corresponding early-season clash in Liege between the pair ended in a 0-0 stalemate. We could be in for something similar this time around so Under 2.5 Goals might be the smartest bet here.
