Peru and Colombia face off against each other in the penultimate match of this year’s Copa America where they’ll be fighting it out to see who finishes third in the competition. Colombia come into the match as favourites even though they’ve only won one of their six games in the competition so far.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Peru’s record is a tad better but the market is siding with Colombia. Let’s delve into the stats and find the three best bets for this 3rd/4th Place Copa America Playoff.

BBC Red Button, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Website

Both Teams to Score

Over their six games so far, Peru have scored eight goals, conceded 11, and have already beaten Colombia 1-2 in their second Group B match. Colombia managed to score just four goals over their six games, conceding five.

The teams have met six times over the last five years, Peru have only won one, Colombia won three with two ending level. Colombia beat Peru on penalties in the first one of those six meetings. Over 2.5 goals landed in three of those six games, Both Teams to Score only occurred in two. However, neither team has anything to lose here and all to gain.

A third place would be a fantastic finish for Peru who have impressed in their matches, except in their 4-0 opening loss to Brazil. Colombia too have come incredibly close over the tournament and while their results don’t look great they took both Argentina and Uruguay to penalties over the previous two rounds. With both teams conceding plenty over the tournament so far, the first pick has to be Both Teams to Score.

Peru to Finish Third

Peru’s record over those six matches mentioned above wouldn’t exactly fill you with confidence but two of them were friendlies and one was pretty much an exhibition match as it was played in the football hotbed that is Miami. If we discount those two then Peru have won one, Colombia won another and two ended level, with Colombia winning one on penalties.

The Colombians did take both Uruguay and Argentina to penalties over the previous two rounds, obviously beating Uruguay and losing to Argentina.

Peru are swinging it here for us though because they’ve already beaten this Colombian side in their second Group B match and they’ve been more clinical in front of goal over the tournament.

Add in the fact that they’ll have had an extra day of rest over Colombia and their match against Brazil didn’t go to Extra Time or further. While the market might be favouring Colombia, the value is with Peru to Finish Third.

Peru to Score Over 0.5 Second Half Goals

Over their six games so far, Peru have scored six Second Half goals, scoring at least one Second Half goal in four of their six games. Colombia have conceded a Second Half goal in three of their six games.

We’re getting quite high odds here for those stats and with Peru chasing what will be their third, third-place finish in 10 years they should be good for at least one during the second period of play.
