As rivalries between countries go, the French and the Swiss tend to get on reasonably for two nations that share a border. When it comes to achievements in major tournament football though, there is no doubt that France is the bigger brother in this relationship.

Monday 20:00 – France v Switzerland
ITV / RTÉ Two

Didier Deschamps men come into this game as the current world champions, and in search of a fifth major international competition. Meanwhile, all the Swiss can do is look longingly all the way back at their World Cup quarter-final appearance in 1954 as their best ever achievement in the game. They’ve also never been beyond this stage at the European Championships, but history is made to be broken.

But, what to bet on here? Well, we’ve taken the deadly data from Andy Robson’s cheat sheet to give you a few options.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

France To Win

The current tournament favourites haven’t been anywhere near their best so far, but we reckon the level of competition in the ‘group of death’ will be a benefit to them coming into the knockouts. Italy ripped the Swiss apart 3-0 in the groups and France can do similar damage if their players perform to what we know they are capable. Switzerland haven’t won any of their last 10 matches against sides ranked in the top 15 in the FIFA rankings, and we can’t see that changing here.

Xherdan Shaqiri To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target

No player has scored more major tournaments goals for Switzerland than Xherdan Shaqiri and he is a good price to hit the target here. He netted a brace against Turkey last time out and has an average of 1.17 shots on target per match. The Liverpool man will also be in charge of free kicks, and we assume he will be tempted to take on a few long range strikes if France go ahead.

France v Switzerland

Granit Xhaka To Be Carded

Although he isn’t at the top of the cheat sheet, we all know what Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is like. He will be in the middle of the park with Antoine Griezmann and Paul Pogba running at him, which should lead to plenty of fouls committed by Xhaka. The stakes are so big in the knockout stages, and Xhaka has been well known to lose his cool when his side are behind.

Paul Pogba To Have 2 Or More Shots

Paul Pogba has been one of the players of the tournament in our book and he looks a different player for his national team. The Man United man has played some fantastic passes, but he is also getting plenty of shots off, with 5 in the group stages and a 1.88 shots per game average on the cheat sheet. We can see Pogba continuing to roam forward against the Swiss, and we fully expect him to get some shots off in the 90 minutes.

France v Switzerland tips summary:

Xherdan Shaqiri To Have One Or More Shots On Target
Granit Xhaka To Be Carded
