The 2008 and 2012 winners of the Euros are in action for the first time at the tournament tonight as Spain tackle Sweden down in Seville.
Bilbao was originally due to host this one, but a switch earlier this year means it’s now down in Andalucia at La Cartuja Stadium.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Monday 20:00 – Spain v Sweden
BBC/ RTE
Spain will be expected to top Group E, while Sweden will be hopeful of qualifying from a section that also includes Poland and Slovakia.
Paddy’s pal Andy Robson has put together a bespoke cheat sheet for tonight’s match and we’ve analysed all the stats to put together a four-leg Bet Builder.
Ferran Torres To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target
Though he was little more than a bit part player for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last season, Ferran Torres has been phenomenal at international level and is one of his country’s key men. He’s notched six times in just 11 senior Spain caps, including a hat-trick in Spain’s 6-0 pumping of Germany last year. He averaged just under two shots on target a game in the lead up to Euro 2020 and should be key in this one.
Alexander Isak To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target
The Swedish striker earns his living in Spain for Real Sociedad so won’t be too keen to rub it in if he gets on the scoresheet, something he very well could do. He scored 17 La Liga goals last campaign and averages well over a shot on target a game for his country. This 21-year-old looks ready to fill Zlatan’s boots, hopefully without the ‘I’m a lion’ nonsense though.
Thiago Alcantara To Have 1 Or More Shots
I don’t immediately associate Thiago with shooting, but the Liverpool playmaker averaged exactly two shots a game for his country in qualifying for this tournament and the Nations League, and it’s no coincidence either. He plays a little further forward for Spain than Liverpool, so does get into better shooting positions, whether he scores, hits the target or shanks it wide is irrelevant for us.
Kristoffer Olsson To Be Carded
Olsson absolutely loves a foul and playing in the heart of Sweden’s midfield, he should be given plenty of opportunities to commit them at will against a tricky Spain side. He averaged 1.64 fouls in the lead up to Euro 2020 and, more pertinently, picked up three yellows in the Champions League group stages last campaign, possibly suggesting the elite level may just be beyond the 25-year-old.
