We’ve phoned in a favour from Twitter tipping sensation Andy Robson for some more insights ahead of Wales’ Euro 2020 opener against Switzerland at 2pm on Saturday. It’s a must-not lose, at least, game for Robert Page’s people as they looks to get some points in the bag before their final-day meeting with Italy.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
But it won’t be an easy task against the 13th-ranked team in the world. And, Wales fans, the numbers are not too encouraging. Andy’s put together a cheat sheet to guide us through the magic numbers, and below are our selections.
Saturday 2pm, Wales v Switzerland
Haris Seferovic to have 1 or more shots on target
The Swiss forward has enjoyed the most prolific domestic season of his career with 29 goal contributions in 31 games (22G, 7A) for Benfica and I fancy him to continue that form here. He averages 0.92 shots on target per game but came against much better opposition in their Nations League groups… 3.37 shots a game is what stands out to me and I’m sure he will keep the Welsh defence busy as we see Seferovic have 1 or More Shots on Target here.
Xherdan Shaqiri to have 1 or more shots on target
Usually played behind the striker for his national team and against an ageing Welsh midfield I’m sure Shaqiri will have plenty of space and shooting chances. Alongside Ricardo Rodriguez, he will also be on free kick duty. He scored a spectacular overhead kick at the last Euros. Just a shot on target from Shaqiri here would suffice.
Switzerland to win
Sorry Wales fans but I think Switzerland to Win at over evens is a good price. They’ve won 6 on the bounce (most against teams that are a similar level to Wales) and have a better and more balanced squad. Wales’ two warm up games saw them battered by France, which is fair enough, but they looked poor in their draw with Albania last week. The situation with Ryan Giggs dropping out as manager hasn’t helped thing but yeah, it’s a Swiss win for me.
Gareth Bale to have 2 or more shots on target
He absolutely loves a shot and will be on all set pieces. You just feel that if Wales are to get much from this game then it will be coming from him. I’m fully expecting Bale to be shooting from 35 yards throughout the game as well, especially if Wales go behind, so I’m happy to have a punt on Bale to Have 2 or More Shots on Target here. 1.57 shots on target and 3.54 shots per game from the cheat sheet says it all.
