Spain and Portugal begin their preparations for this summer’s Euros with a friendly at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The home side have enjoyed some great form over the last couple of years, losing just one of their last 22 matches.
Portugal have been in mighty form too of late, losing just two of their last 27. Let’s go through the stats and form here to find a value-busting Bet Builder.

Both of these teams are quite obviously full of goals. Of those 22 matches mentioned above, Spain have only been kept scoreless in two – one was incidentally against Friday’s opponents – while Portugal found the back of the net in 22 of the 27 matches previously mentioned.
In previous head-to-head games, Both Teams to Score has only landed in one of the last five, however those five matches date back over 10 years and we should remain focused on recent form rather than historical data.
We could go with a normal BTTS, but there’s better value going for more goals. Spain have scored at least two in eight of their last 10 on home soil, while Portugal have bagged two or more goals in seven of their last nine on their travels.
Granted the odds are pretty high but with those records it certainly has plenty of value. With this being one of the last matches where players can give their managers selection headaches for the tournament we should see a few that are out to impress. BTTS Two Or More is our first pick here.
Cristiano Ronaldo to Score Anytime
Ronaldo has only faced Spain six times in his career, winning, drawing and losing two games each but he has scored three against them over those six matches. Over the last couple of seasons, since the qualifications for these Euros began, he has played a total of 17 games for Portugal, scoring an impressive 15 goals.
Of course he’s going to be fired up for this, getting one over some of his old Real Madrid teammates and getting one over Portugal’s oldest of enemies. There are decent odds on him despite his impressive record so he has to make the list here.
The Draw
Here’s a stat for you: Spain have never lost at home to Portugal over their 14 previous meetings. You’d have thought that with all the great teams both have had over the years they would have come away victorious at least once. However, Spain have won 10 with four ending level.
Tempting then to go with Spain you might be thinking. Yes, but the odds are just a wee bit too low for value here. We need to consider Portugal manager Fernando Santo has made them an incredibly tough team to beat. Of their last 22 matches as the away team they’ve only lost three times and it’s worth mentioning too that of their two most recent games, played in 2020 and 2018, both ended level. The value here is in backing the Draw.
