For Thursday night’s footballing action we’ve been searching for value in the Premier League where Aston Villa face a European-football chasing Everton and Manchester United take on rivals Liverpool.
It’s the DFB Pokal final in Germany as well where RB Leipzig face Dortmund and finally to the never-ending ups and downs of the La Liga title race where Real Madrid could, maybe, just maybe, take top spot. But they probably won’t. Maybe.
Aston Villa’s Premier League form makes for some pretty dire reading: they’ve lost three of their last five, winning and drawing one each. At home at Villa Park they have the same record over their last five. Everton’s form has improved in their push for European football next season.
The Toffees have two wins, two draws and one loss over their five most recent top-flight fixtures, and share the same record over their away games. Everton’s momentum and good form should see them capitalise on Villa’s bad run here. A win will put them above Liverpool should they lose at Old Trafford, and into the driving seat for European football next season.
Dortmund have the superior form between the sides coming into the match here. They’ve won six of their last six in all competitions while Leipzig have only won one of their last five, drawing two (winning one in ET) and losing two. Of course with this match being played at a neutral venue looking at home vs away form won’t do us much good but we can at least say that both teams are in great goal-scoring form. Leipzig have scored seven over their last five while Dortmund have scored a whopping 16 over their five most recent fixtures.
Dortmund have won five of their last six meetings between the sides with the other ending all square and with them enjoying a superior tally of goals over their recent games it’s tough to look beyond a win for them. Leipzig will make it tough though, Both Teams to Score has landed in four of those six recent meetings and they’ve only been kept scoreless in three of their last 14 games. Dortmund to Win & BTTS is where the value is.
Manchester United’s players looked like they needed a good, long sleep at the final whistle of their home defeat to Leicester on Tuesday night. This will be their fourth match within a week and even if you really don’t like United, you have to admit that’s too many games in too short a space of time.
United’s home form is great, and until the loss to Leicester they’d been on a run of 11 matches without defeat. Liverpool’s form isn’t bad but it’s not exactly the best either, they’ve only lost one of their last nine in all competitions but have drawn three of the other eight. Their away Premier League form is strong though: they’ve won five of their last seven, losing and drawing one each. Man United have certainly had the better team this season as their league position shows but some of their players could barely walk at full time they were so tired. Don’t be surprised to see Jurgen Klopp’s team just play keep-ball here, further tire out United’s players and grab a goal or two. Liverpool to Win has the value.
on Tuesday Barcelona blew their chance to take top spot in La Liga. Again. Cruising at 2-0 ahead at the break, they ended up drawing 3-3. Atletico play on Wednesday night and ‘should’ beat Real Sociedad at home. But this La Liga campaign is nuts so anything could happen really. Atletico are currently on 77 points. Whatever happens between Atletico and Sociedad, Real need to win. Simple as that really.
Granda’s home form isn’t exactly mighty, they’ve won three of their last five, losing two but only scored in three of those games. Real have only won two of their last five away, drawing two and losing one but they kept three clean sheets over those matches. Real have won all five of their most recent visits to Granada, also keeping three clean sheets over those five games. Madrid to Win to Nil is where our money is going.
