Leicester missed a glorious chance to further strengthen their position in the top four when they failed to beat 10-man Southampton last weekend and they simply have to beat Newcastle on Friday if they are to avoid a very nervy run-in and the potential of bottling Champions League football for the second season running.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Leicester take on Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham in their final three games and it wouldn’t be inconceivable that they could be caught by West Ham, who have a far more straightforward run of fixtures. With that in mind, they must avoid any slip-ups against Newcastle at home on Friday night.

Leicester (-1)

Steve Bruce’s side are not mathematically safe yet but played like they were in their 2-0 defeat against Arsenal last weekend. Some of Newcastle’s players looked like they were mentally on their holidays, which can be a dangerous position to be in and one that can be difficult to recover from.

They represent ideal opposition for a nervy Leicester to take on as they attempt to secure their Champions League status and Brendan Rodgers’ side must take full advantage. I expect them to beat the Leicester (-1) handicap.

Kelechi Iheanacho to score anytime

Iheanacho didn’t score in the 1-1 draw with Southampton, but he was instrumental in setting up Johnny Evans’ equaliser midway through the second half. The Nigerian forward has been Leicester’s best player by quite a distance over the past few months, scoring 11 goals in his last 10 games in all competitions.

Iheanacho has scored seven times in Leicester’s last four outings at the King Power Stadium and could conceivably overtake Jamie Vardy as the club’s top-scorer in the Premier League before the end of the season. He already leads his English counterpart in all competitions. It has been an incredible turnaround from the 24-year-old after a few seasons in the wilderness and Iheanacho can Score Anytime to boost his blossoming reputation further.

Over 10.5 corners

Leicester will almost certainly dominate possession and territory on Friday night as they have done in their four most recent league games, which should lead to plenty of corner kicks. Rodgers’ side have enjoyed more than 60% possession in seven of their last eight league games and will almost certainly enjoy similar possession against Newcastle on Friday.

Leicester have won 43 corners in their last six league matches at a rate of just over seven per game, which is all the more impressive when you consider one of those was against Manchester City when they were utterly dominated and won just one corner.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have conceded 37 corners in their last five games during an impressive run of form that has all but secured their Premier League safety. The Magpies haven’t enjoyed more than 50% possession in a league game since mid-February and will almost certainly spend the majority of Friday’s game inside their own half.

There is every chance that Leicester will at least match their recent average of seven corners per game, while one would expect Newcastle to at least win a few on their forays into Leicester territory with Over 10.5 Corners having a good chance here.

Over 1.5 Leicester goals in the second half

Leicester have certainly saved their best to last in recent weeks with the vast majority of their goals coming in the second half. The Foxes have generally come alive after the half time break in their last seven games, scoring 11 of their last 17 goals in the second period.

They have shown excellent powers of recovery to keep their Champions League bid alive; scoring twice in a come-from-behind win over Brighton and repeating the feat against Crystal Palace. They also scored a second-half equaliser against Southampton last week and scored twice in the final 20 minutes at West Ham as they almost secured the unlikeliest of draws after going three goals down.

They could overrun Newcastle as the game nears the final whistle. I’m rounding off this Bet Builder with Over 1.5 Leicester Goals in the Second Half.
