Sure, Coventry heading to Rotherham on a Thursday night might not look like too much to get excited about at first glance. But this could be one of the games in the Championship this year. Seriously. It’s not all about liquid football and the biggest names on the planet facing off, you know.

Oh no, this the relegation six pointer to end all relegation six pointers. While most Championship sides have just five games to go, The Millers still have eight left and the Sky Blues six. Coventry are 21st while Rotherham are one place below them in the final relegation spot with a three-point deficit to make up. And what a chance they have to nullify that here.

Thursday 7pm: Rotherham v Coventry
Sky Sports Football

A win for Coventry and they’re looking really good to stay up. A win for the hosts and they’ll move out of the drop zone thanks to their vastly superior goal difference over their opponents.

If Coventry are victorious than it’s basically goodnight for Sheffield Wednesday and Wycombe who sit 23rd and 24th while Rotherham’s task will look very difficult indeed with their other games in hand coming against Brentford (4th) and Luton (13th). There’s a lot on the line so let’s see where the value lies on Thursday night.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Rotherham to Win

This is so tough to call because we’ve got two of the worst sides in the league looking for nothing other than a win. The Millers have the worst home record in the league and The Sky Blues have the worst away record.

However, Rotherham did pick up a home win last time out so we’re hoping, from a betting perspective, that something’s finally clicked them them. Their home record is slightly skewed as well because they’ve played two fewer games than most of their divisional rivals.

Coventry have taken just two points from their last eight away games while The Millers have won two of their last eight on home soil. In their last five home and away, Cov have won once, drawn once and lost three.

Rotherham have won two, drawn one and lost two so are in the slightly better form. With Coventry’s woeful away record (just two wins all season) I’m happy enough to side with the team in slightly better form with a Rotherham Win.

Over 2.5 Goals

While this is undoubtedly going to be a tight, nervy defensive affair to start with, I think there’s some value in backing goals. Both of these two are far from defensively sound and the goals have been flying about a bit recently for both. In Rotherham’s last five they’ve seen 10 goals, an average of two per game. For Coventry it’s 14 with nine of them coming in their last two and an overall average of 2.8 per match. Rotherham’s last game had four goals as well.

The pressure is very much on here and while Coventry will probably by happy with a draw this is must win for Rotherham. If one of these can find a way through early the other will have to chase it and we could be in good shape for Over 2.5 Goals landing.

Half With Most Goals: Second Half

Given everything mentioned above we seem certain to have a blockbuster ending in this game. If either side get their noses in front you can bet the other will be bringing the kitchen sink out with increasing desperation as the clock ticks down. Similarly, if the scores are tied Rotherham are going to be banging the door down while Coventry cling on for dear life.

One thing we know about these teams is that their defences are not the strongest and we might be in line for a few flying in as the game goes on and the tension ratchets up. I really like this Half With Most Goals: Second Half bet given how it looks like this game will play out.
