With the Premier League back and no bank holiday madness to contend with we’ve got just two EFL games on our screen this Saturday and both come from The Championship. Both are biggies though, with Millwall and Swansea battling for playoff places and Sheffield Wednesday heading to QPR trying desperately to maintain their second-tier status.

We should see two fiercely contested games and I’ll try and unearth a winning double at a handsome price. We’ve got plenty of value on offer with two well-matched games. So, let’s get into it.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

12.30pm: Millwall v Swansea City – Millwall to Win to Nil

Swansea have blown it. They’ve completely capitulated at the worst possible time and their once-strong hopes of automatic promotion are just a painful memory for the Jack Army. They’ve got to pick themselves up quickly though, as they’ve still got a good chance of making the playoffs.

Millwall also have faint ambitions of extending their season and will come into this contest as the team in better shape. They’ve won three on the bounce and are upwardly mobile. Swansea have lost four in a row and are in freefall. Their place in the top six is by no means guaranteed.

Swansea are 4th now, just four points ahead of Bournemouth in 7th. Millwall are 9th and have to make up eight points on Reading in 6th in just six games to make the playoffs. It’s a tall order, but if they can continue their form then who knows what could happen as some of the sides above them start faltering.

With The Swans’ appalling form we can only side with The Lions here and I think I’ve found a really nice angle to give us a juicy price. Swansea haven’t scored in four games and have gone completely off the boil.

Millwall, however, have scored in their last five and have taken three points in four of their last five games. Of their last six league wins, four of them have come to Nil.

With Swansea completely misplacing their shooting boots and The Lions tightening up and grinding out the wins, Millwall to Win to Nil feels like a great play in this game. There is, of course, a chance that Swansea get their act together but, looking at the trends, Millwall to Win to Nil has a great chance.

3pm: QPR v Sheffield Wednesday – Sheffield Wednesday to Win

While I’m pretty confident with my selection in Saturday’s first televised game, the 3pm match looks a little trickier, on paper at least. We’ve got QPR, who are slap-bang in the middle of the table with nothing to play for, hosting Sheffield Wednesday who are fighting for their lives in the relegation zone.

Funny things happen at this time of the season and motivation can often trump quality when it’s do or die. Any other time of the season 12th paced QPR would be a banker to beat the 23rd-placed Owls, but we’re into the EFL witching hour and I can’t help but be drawn to an away win.

The reason? Well, Wednesday are actually in quite good form. They’ve won two and lost one of their last three with the defeat coming away at 2nd-placed Watford. And, make no bones about it, Wednesday desperately need to win this while The R’s will be busy plotting their summer holidays in Weston-Super-Mare or Bognor Regis.

And if that’s not off-putting enough, Wednesday’s wins came against Barnsley and Cardiff – both sides placed higher in the league than Rangers with realistic ambitions of making the playoffs. Darren Moore has finally started to get rewards up at Hillsborough and their great escape looks like it might be on.

The Owls are now seven points from safety and have a game in hand over Birmingham City in 21st. If it wasn’t for their pre-season points deduction that gap would be a solitary point.

It’s still going to be a big ask for Wednesday to pull themselves out of the drop zone in the remaining weeks – especially with the unknown factor of Rotherham’s games in hand. But with everything to play for and things coming together for Moore’s men I’m happy to tip up a Sheffield Wednesday Win here at another healthy price.
