In a lot of ways, people look down on Burnley for being a small club and a bit of a kip.

Now, while I can’t categorically deny the latter – I was there in 2010 for my 18th birthday; don’t ask – I can assure you that not only do Burnley have a rich history, but they don’t rely on it to build them up unlike certain clubs.

So are they the perfect counterpoint for Newcastle – who are supposedly still a big club just because they have a big stadium and we think of them every time we pass a low-budget sporting goods shop located in a retail park?

Not for me.

And this year is a lovely example of just that. Newcastle, in a bid to finally push on, have still managed to find themselves behind Burnley in the Premier League table.

The English top tier might not be full of excitement this year, but it doesn’t lack on the irony front, I can say that much. The last time Newcastle relied on a Geordie to save them? Relegated under Shearer. Same again? Oh boyo.

Burnley to Win

They’ve been a lot better than their league positions suggests this year.

They went 2-0 up against Southampton and were good value for it. Before that, they lost just one of their last eight in the league – and that came against Spurs. They have been slightly better away from home this year, but there is a sense that Newcastle will have to force this.

And as soon as they do, it becomes an away game for Burnley, at least in how the game flows – and that will play into their hands.

Chris Wood to Score Anytime

If Chris Wood was at a top club, how much would he be worth? No matter what level he’s been at, he’s always scored goals and those players generally cost a lot of money.

Clearly the English tax doesn’t extend as far as the Commonwealth, so Chris Wood will go for pennies until he swears his ancestors were from Cambridge.

Newcastle really struggle with opposing No. 9s who have a physical presence – Harry Kane netted twice last week, Neal Maupay scored against them a fortnight ago and they’re the only side to have given up a goal to Chelsea’s Timo Werner.

Over 2.5 Goals

There’ll be no settling in this game. If Newcastle are losing, they’ll have to throw bodies forward, because they’re running out of games to just throw away now. With Fulham’s resurgence still going strong, at least in terms of performances, they know that playing Burnley is nailed-on as a game to take something from.

And if they’re winning, something will have gone very, very right for them. They’ve not won a game to nil this year, meaning they’ve scored twice in each of their victories to date.

Callum Wilson to Have Three or More Shots

He’s back. He’s keen to flash his ability. He’s talented. And he’s soon to be very, very p***ed off at the lack of service. If there’s one leg in this bet builder that’s an absolute certainty, it’s that the former Bournemouth striker will take aim from absolutely everywhere when he realises he’s the only one capable of netting in the squad.
