Chelsea (-2)

Chelsea have been excellent since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, but they have still failed to score more than two in a game under the German, despite playing against some of the worst defences in the league. However, they should look to end that poor record in front of goal against a West Brom side that comfortably boasts the worst defensive record in the league.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Sam Allardyce’s side have conceded 57 goals in 29 games this season and it is little wonder that they find themselves ten points adrift of Premier League safety. Their defensive record has improved in recent weeks, but they will struggle against a Blues side that will come at them from all angles and should easily pass the Chelsea (-2) handicap.

Timo Werner to score any time

Timo Werner hasn’t enjoyed the most successful season since his big-money move from RB Leipzig last summer, but the German striker still has plenty of time to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge. This is a perfect opportunity for Werner to improve his poor goalscoring record this season and find a bit of momentum and confidence ahead of a crucial run of fixtures in league and cup competitions.

Werner has scored just once in his last 21 league games, which simply isn’t good enough. His record of five league goals this season is also far below what the Chelsea hierarchy would have expected when they brought him last summer.

However, four of his five league goals have come at Stamford Bridge against teams in the bottom half of the table and he has a good chance of improving his record against West Brom on Saturday afternoon. He will surely be keen to put his horrendous miss against North Macedonia behind him as quickly as humanly possible and we’re backing Werner to Score Anytime.

Both teams to score? No

Chelsea’s defensive transformation under Tuchel is nothing short of remarkable. The Blues have gone from one of the leakiest defences in the top half to arguably the best defence in the league since the German took the reins at Stamford Bridge, conceding just two goals in 10 league games since his appointment.

They have conceded just two goals in 14 games in all competitions and would be on track to break the long-standing defensive record set by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in 2004/05 if the season started with Tuchel’s appointment. Their newfound defensive solidity should face little threat against West Brom’s faltering attack.

The Baggies have drawn blanks in four of their last five games, while they have failed to score in 15 of 29 games in the league this season. There is little chance that they will suddenly find an attacking threat to trouble the best defence in the league since Tuchel’s appointment and we should see Both Teams To Score? No landing here.

Chelsea to have seven or more shots on target

Whatever happens on Saturday morning, Chelsea will dominate the ball – that much is guaranteed. Tuchel’s side have enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in 13 of their last 14 games in all competitions. They have utterly dominated possession and territory in all of their home games and they have bombarded their opponents with shots.

Tuchel’s side have had 34 shots on target in five home league games since his appointment – a rate of just under seven per game. The have also enjoyed at least 58% in each of those games. It is reasonable to think that both of those statistics will increase substantially against one of the worst sides in the division with Chelsea to Have Seven or More Shots here.
