Midweek action just hits a little different doesn’t it? You’re trying to get past the slump of eating brown pasta for the five days until Saturday’s Indian. This is the midweek hump and we all need a welcome boost, I think.

And what better way to do it than landing yourself a nice touch to carry you into the latter half of the week on a high.

Now on paper, home games for Burnley and Sheffield United don’t scream excitement, but I don’t think Leicester have had a dull Premier League encounter since they were last promoted and Aston Villa are genuinely on a quest from needing failed goal line technology to keep them up to European contenders.

You can say what you like about this year’s campaign, but the likely has come to pass even less often than Paul Pogba.

Two favourites away from home in the middle of the week screams coupon buster normally, but I can’t help but feel with the lack of crowds and the subdued nature of English football at the moment, it’s not the big ask it once was. Are we putting all our eggs in the fav basket? Here’s your Wednesday double.

Brendan Rodgers

Burnley v Leicester – Leicester to Win and Both Teams to Score

I understand that Leicester are now without two of their key players in Harvey Barnes and James Maddison (two names that could absolutely pass for Tory candidates in a by-election) but Burnley are and have been absolutely toothless this year.

They’ve won games at key times which is part and parcel of Sean Dyche’s approach to football management. He’s terrific at overachieving because he knows when to focus his team’s energy. But Burnley are brutal when they’ve no need to pull results out and probably the laziest outfit in the entire league.

Given how quickly Leicester break, I’d not be shocked to see them storm into a healthy lead before resting on their laurels and coming away with a win to take into the weekend’s clash with Brighton.

For all that Burnley like to target games, Brendan Rodgers will know that six points from these two games are crucial if they want to push for second.

Sheffield United v Aston Villa – Sheffield United and the Draw

Fifteen points might seem like a lost cause but they’re not playing like it is. They’re a funny unit, Sheffield United. Last season’s back five approach seemed to really confuse teams who played against them. It just wasn’t the done thing. But like everything in football, it becomes a copycat league and they’re one-dimensional again.

I’m not slating Didzy here, but if David McGoldrick is your chief goal threat, you’re in trouble. With that being said, the reason they’re the selection in a double chance punt is that Aston Villa only win games they can dominate.

BT Sport 1

Of their 12 Premier League wins, 11 of them have come with clean sheets. That’s not a slight on them by any stretch either – they’ve done a sensational job and you can easily make a case for Dean Smith being shortlisted for an award.

But it’s not a sustainable way of stacking wins against teams that are playing with desperation like Sheffield United and I can’t see Villa scoring multiple times away from home.

Wednesday’s Premier League betting tips:

Burnley v Leicester: Leicester to Win and Both Teams to Score
Sheffield United v Aston Villa: Sheffield United and the Draw

A double with these two selections pays around 6/1 with Paddy Power.
