Chelsea (-1)

Chelsea have found a new lease of life and a new identity under Thomas Tuchel, but they are still struggling to find the back of the net. The Blues have scored just six times in Tuchel’s first five games as manager despite dominating for large parts against inferior teams.

Their failure to convert possession and territory into goals would have cost them against better teams and they need to address their struggles as quickly as possible. Luckily for Chelsea, they are taking on a decidedly average Newcastle side on Monday, who shouldn’t cause them much trouble.

Newcastle arrested their slide down the Premier League table with two wins in their last three games – a run of results that has put 10 points between them and the bottom three. They are almost certainly going to stay up, but they don’t offer much and will likely set up with 10 men behind the ball at Stamford Bridge. The Blues will once again dominate possession and territory, and could finally run up a big score.

Mason Mount to score anytime

Chelsea’s upturn in form has not extended to their forward players. Four of their five league goals under Tuchel have come from defenders or penalties, as the struggles of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz continue.

Mason Mount, who many expected to be benched after Tuchel’s appointment, has been the only forward player to score in the league under Tuchel and the young English attacking midfielder has played himself into the German’s early plans at the club.

Mount will get plenty of opportunities against a deep Magpies outfit and has every chance of impressing his manager once again after good displays against Sheffield United and Burnley.

Both teams to score? No

It is no great surprise to discover that only the bottom three, Burnley and Wolves have worse goalscoring records than Newcastle in the league this season. Steve Bruce’s side have been exceptionally dull at points this year and recently scored just one goal across a deplorable six-game run in the league over December and January.

Chelsea have conceded just one goal in all competitions since Tuchel took over last month – that was a freak own goal against Sheffield United – and will be confident of keeping a fourth league clean sheet in five games against a blunt Newcastle side without their best goalscorer.

Over 10.5 corners

There should be plenty of corners on Monday night if Chelsea’s recent games are anything to go by. Chelsea have kept between 58-79% possession in their four league games under Tuchel, winning a combined total of 31 corners. There is no reason to think that will change on Monday night.

Chelsea will dominate the ball and should have plenty of shots ago, so it is fair to assume that they will record their eight-corner average at the very least. Expect that figure to be a lot higher if the game is anything like their home draw with Wolves when they won 12.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have had 19 corners across their last three games and should be capable of winning at least two corners to help our total – especially considering Chelsea have conceded an average of two corners per game under Tuchel.
